How to Style Bridesmaids: Blue

The first step to styling bridesmaids? Pick the perfect dress!

1. The Dress

For this inspiration board, we’ve selected a short bridesmaid dress in navy blue by Columbia. We love this dress because it it short (perfect for spring or summer weddings), wicks away sweat (especially perfect for humid weddings), and it is re-wearable. We also like the feminine sash tie and neckline detail.

2. Chevron Clutch Purse

We paired the navy blue dress with a statement clutch in a fun, colorful pattern: chevron! This clutch purse by Good Marvin will hold all of her essentials.

3. Blue Earrings

We spotted these beautiful earrings at Rustic Gem Jewelry. They’re lovely yet simple, which means they’ll become her favorite everyday earrings after the big day.

4. Studded Flip Flop

Since the bridesmaid dress is more casual, we wanted to keep with the look for footwear. We spotted these leather flip flops with white detail by American Eagle Outfitters and they’re perfect.

5. Blue Feather Hair Accessory

And, last but not least, we wanted to add a hair accessory to pull the look together. We spotted this feather hair accessory at Jewelsalem.

How to Register for Anything Online and In-Store

Posted January 16, 2014 by EmmalineBride | ♥ Leave a Comment!

The wedding registry is an exciting – and fun – part of planning your wedding. A wedding registry is a gift list curated by the couple and given to guests (typically as a mention in your bridal shower invitation) as potential gift ideas. From a gift-givers point of view, a wedding registry is a brilliant idea: why guess when you can buy gifts you know the couple will love? A wedding registry removes all doubt and identifies specific gifts the couple has carefully selected together.

In the past, wedding registries were limited to select big box chains only. You had to pick a store that offered a registry service and limit your gift choices on items they carried. But now, the wedding registry is different thanks to the folks at SimpleRegistry! They have created a new, modern alternative to the traditional wedding registry that allows couples register for anything they want! Read on to find out how you can register for anything online (and in-store)…

How to Register for Anything Online and In-Store

SimpleRegistry

You’ve heard of wedding registries in-store, but SimpleRegistry is different. Instead of limiting a couple’s selection to products at a big box retail store, SimpleRegistry lets you register for gifts from any store (even online). You can even register for non-tangible stuff like season tickets, indoor skydiving sessions, or a donation to a favorite charity. Get creative with it: literally anything that can be thought up can be added to a registry.

How to Register for Anything Online and In-Store (via EmmalineBride.com)

We love how easy it is to use SimpleRegistry. To get started, all you have to do is sign up here. Everything is online-based, which means you’ll spend more time adding items to your registry and less time driving around and scanning items in-store. Once you’re logged in, you can use their special built-in tool called SimpleAdder, a bookmarklet designed to add any item to your registry online in one click. You can also access your registry with your mobile phone on-the-go using their free mobile app. The app allows you to view your registry and add to it instantly by scanning barcodes or uploading photos of products you find.

What Can You Register For?

What can you register for at SimpleRegistry? In a word: anything! Do you want kitchen gadgets, handmade items, linens, annual museum passes, and home décor? Add it to your SimpleRegistry. For example, if you’re a wine connoisseur, add specialty wines, glassware, or even wine tasting tours to your wedding registry.

Did you find the perfect dining table (and accoutrements) at a local boutique? Add it to your registry.

Crave adventure (like a bike-riding tour or hot air balloon ride)? Those can be added, too!

Register for Anything Online - Mountain Biking Tours

If you can dream it, you can add it to your registry.

Register for Anything Online - Hot Air Balloon Rides

Practical tools like cooking classes can also be added to your registry. Pair your favorite kitchen gadgets and cooking tools with a cooking class for the ultimate post-wedding gift package.

Another feature that SimpleRegistry offers is the ability to split pricier items. This means that your more expensive items can be split into smaller portions for guests to give as a group with ease. You can even allow guests to suggest cool items to add to your list (with your final approval of each item). Gifts are redeemed as cash so the couple can purchase the items themselves from the list.

SimpleRegistry will help you after the wedding, too. SimpleRegistry generates a list of your guests, the gift(s) they provided, amounts, and their full contact information to make thank you note writing a breeze. Your thank you notes will be accurate, personal, and completed in record time.

If you’re a modern couple and you’re looking for a revolutionary way to create a wedding registry, SimpleRegistry is it! Give it a try today and see how easy it is to get started! (You can also read Real Member stories from couples who have used the service themselves.)

3 Ways to Preserve Your Wedding Invitation

Posted December 19, 2013 by EmmalineBride | ♥ 1 Comment

Brides: have you thought about how to preserve your wedding invitation after the big day? If you’re still in the midst of planning, the thought probably hasn’t crossed your mind. (It didn’t cross mine while planning, and thankfully my mom made a custom paperweight mere days afterward so I’d never forget how beautiful the invitations were!) When you order your wedding invitations, be sure to order one or two as extra-‘extras’ for preserving (they always tell you to order extras anyway, but you’ll want to set one or two aside.) Then, check out these three ways we’ve rounded up to preserve your wedding invitation to ensure your pretty, hand-picked paper will stand the test of time. Read on to find out more, including a special DIY idea in time for Christmas!

How to Preserve Your Wedding Invitation

1. Have your wedding invitation framed.

The most popular way to preserve your wedding invitation is with a frame. You can place your invitation in a simple frame yourself… or, you can check out the beautiful work by Golden Silhouette, an invitation and keepsake framing expert, who can create a themed masterpiece from your invitation paper.

how to preserve your wedding invitation

golden silhouette

2. Have it photographed and placed in your wedding album.

Add ‘wedding invitation’ to your list of wedding photo must-haves; have the photo printed in a prominent place in your album.

3. Make a wedding invitation ornament.

Turn the wedding invitation into an ornament (ideal for your one year anniversary, which ‘paper’ is the traditional gift). For this, though, I recommend saving an extra wedding invitation just in case — you don’t want your only invitation cut up into pieces. Use an additional ‘extra’ and cut it up into strips to be placed inside a clear empty ornament. Add a ribbon and voila – you have a beautiful keepsake!

So, what do you think of these ideas? How will you preserve your wedding invitation?

How to Wear a Birdcage Veil

First things first: what is a birdcage veil? A birdcage veil is a wedding veil style that is worn close to one’s face. It is typically made of French netting or tulle attached to a hair comb to accommodate any hairstyle.

How to Wear a Birdcage Veil (veil by sibo designs)

by sibo designs

Should you wear a birdcage veil throughout your entire day? That’s entirely up to you. Some brides opt to wear a traditional long veil for the ceremony and wear a birdcage veil for the reception. Others wear a birdcage veil for the ceremony and remove the piece for the reception. And, of course, many brides wear the birdcage veil from the walk down the aisle to the last dance. It’s entirely up to you!

How to Wear a Birdcage Veil

A birdcage veil can be worn in a variety of ways, depending on what feels most comfortable to you. If you’re wearing your hair down, simply slide the hair comb to position on the side of your head for an asymmetrical look. Or, slide the comb onto the top of your head for a fuller look.

How to Wear a Garter — The Ultimate Guide

Posted August 6, 2013 by EmmalineBride | ♥ Leave a Comment!

Brides: wondering how to wear a garter? You’ve come to the right place! In this post, we’ll talk about how to wear a garter, how to measure for a wedding garter, and tell you which leg the garter should be worn. Plus, we’ll talk about that blush-worthy garter toss and tell you whether it’s required. And, in true fashion, we’ll inspire you with the hottest handmade wedding garters for 2013. It’s all inside…

How to Wear a Garter (garter by Belle Amour Designs)

by belle amour designs, photo by jen rodriguez

How to Wear a Garter

When you’re wearing a garter, you’ll want to wear it approximately 3-6″ above the knee. Traditionally, the wedding garter is worn on the left leg while the toss garter is worn on the right leg; however, you can wear the two together on one leg (left, traditionally) if you prefer.

How to Wear a Garter (garter by Nana Rose Designs)

by nana rose designs

How to Measure for a Garter

Use fabric measuring tape wrapped snug around your thigh and measure the circumference. Don’t measure too tight or too loose; the garter will have elastic to fit snugly. Give this measurement to your garter designer for a custom fit. Use a bit of this so it stays in place.

Is The Garter Removal and Toss Required?

No, the tradition of a garter removal and toss is not required. Since it’s your wedding, you get to decide whether or not to follow this tradition at your wedding. If you’re unfamiliar with the tradition, it is when the groom removes the garter from the bride’s leg and tosses it to a crowd of bachelors. Traditionally, the bachelor who catches the garter would then put it onto the leg of the bachelorette who caught the bride’s bouquet. However, a more PG approach (and less embarrassing for guests) would be for the two to share a dance together when the bridal party begins dancing. If the whole idea of the garter removal makes you cringe, skip it.

How to Wear a Hair Comb

Posted July 24, 2013 by EmmalineBride | ♥ 42 Comments

One of my favorite wedding day hair accessories is the hair comb. A hair comb is a subtle, simple, and elegant way to dress up your ‘do, whether worn up or down. If you’re wondering how to wear a hair comb, which hairstyle works best with hair combs, or how to keep it secure, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’ll uncover hair comb secrets, show you eight hair comb hairstyles to inspire your look, and we’ll share some vintage-inspired hair combs. And, once you know how to wear one, you’ll want to try it out… right? We’re also giving away a FREE hair comb to one lucky reader by the always-inspiring Marolsha. Let’s get started…

How to Wear a Hair Comb (hair accessory by Tessa Kim, photo by Candice Benjamin)

hair accessory by tessa kim, photo by candice benjamin

A hair comb typically has metal prongs to secure into one’s hairstyle. A hair comb can be used to attach to a larger hair accessory (as seen above) or as a stand-alone hair accessory. Hair combs are often vintage-inspired and feature elements such as rhinestones, pearls, crystals, feathers, or floral embellishments.

How to Wear a Hair Comb - pink hair comb by Marolsha

by marolsha

How to Wear a Hair Comb

Updo’s or thick hair

If you have a strong base such as an updo, bun, chignon, french twist, or thick hair to begin with, the prongs of your hair comb should ‘lock’ into place easily.

Hair down hairstyles

Prefer loose curls? Wearing your hair down? Have fine or thin hair? Wearing a braid? You can still wear a hair comb: just add a few accessories to keep it in place. Gather a section of your hair in one of these elastics and push the hair comb prongs into the ‘ponytail’ above the elastic. Or, use bobby pins or snap clips to keep the comb in place. (Make sure any clips or pins are the color of your hair and well-hidden.) If using bobby pins, place them in an ‘X’ shape for extra security. And, make sure your hair comb isn’t too heavy. Always consult your hairstylist to see if he or she can accommodate your hairstyle with your selected hair comb. Always do a run-through first to make sure you love the hairstyle before the big day.
