What is a Tie Bar + Why Does He Need One?

Posted September 6, 2013 | 28 Comments

Ooh, so many questions to kick off this Friday morning! What is a tie bar? Why does he need one? If your groom doesn’t already have a tie bar — also known as a tie clip — now is the time to surprise him with one. He might not know it yet, but a tie bar will seriously change his (formal) life. Read on to find out what a tie bar is, why he needs one, and throw your hat in the ring for a chance to win a free personalized tie bar from our friend Annie of Spiffing Jewelry! This Friday is off to a great start…

What is a Tie Bar?

First, let’s answer the obvious question. What is a tie bar? A tie bar, also known as a tie clip, is a metal clip used to fasten a tie together. A tie bar keeps a neat, polished appearance by keeping the tie from moving around. A tie bar fastens the front part of the tie to the back and it fastens both ends to the placket of your shirt. To look its best, a tie bar should be worn between the third and fourth buttons of a formal shirt. Also, a tie bar should never be wider than the width of the tie. A tie bar is a fantastic finishing touch for him to wear down the aisle (and beyond).

Here’s an example of a tie bar in action:

And, of course, a few of our favorite tie bars handmade (+ personalized!) by Spiffing Jewelry.
