Good morning, loves! It’s already Thursday… can you believe it? Today we’re throwing out the traditional wedding play book and forgoing the cookie cutter ideas with new, creative and fun wedding alternatives to inspire you. One of the key elements to planning an unforgettable handmade wedding is to incorporate your personal style. Don’t be afraid to skip traditions you don’t like, participate in the ones you love, and start a few of your own! To kick start your creativity, we’ve gathered our favorite top twelve wedding alternatives. We hope it inspires you to think outside the box for your own wedding and remember that the day is all about you. Read on to see which wedding alternatives made the cut… and see how to contribute to our list!
12 Creative Wedding Alternatives
1. Instead of wedding cake…
… go nuts with donuts! Or cake pops. Or cookies. Or pies. Really, the possibilities are endless. You can still have a small wedding cake for you and your honey.
2. Instead of boutonnieres…
… give your bridal party ‘badges of honor’ to wear. These brilliant pin buttons are by One Plus One Design.
3. Instead of a wedding veil…
… wear an alternative! We love this gorgeous bridal headband with blushing pink flower by Tiffani Saxton Designs.
4. Instead of a seating chart…
… have guests pick a seat – not a side.
5. Instead of a ring pillow…
… carry rings in a sweetly decorated muslin bag, like this one by Clementine Weddings. After the wedding, you can keep in your drawer to hold other jewelry.
6. Instead of clinking glasses…
… instruct guests to sing a song before you’ll kiss! Print the chorus to popular songs on note cards placed on reception tables. Guests can pick a song – and a friend – to serenade the couple. In return, the couple will kiss – no clinking of glasses necessary.
7. Instead of frosting…
… go naked – with the cake, that is.
8. Instead of traditional flower girl / ring bearer roles…
… instruct the little ones to carry a banner instead, like ‘Here Comes The Bride’. Talk about a grand entrance!
9. Instead of a traditional ring…
… opt for something unique that suits your style. One example is this twig-inspired diamond wedding band which is eco-friendly and handmade by Barbara Michelle Jacobs…
You can also consider an alternative wedding stone – like blue sapphire:
10. Instead of an aisle runner…
… decorate the side of the aisle with pinwheels, custom-made in your favorite shades. The brilliant designer behind this idea is Whimzy Life and we can’t get over these pretty pinwheels made to match your color palette.
11. Instead of a fresh flower bouquet…
… go handmade and enjoy that gorgeous bouquet forever. No wilting! This handmade bouquet is by Ann-Kay Design.
12. Instead of a guest book…
… love notes to the bride and groom! Cute idea by Blush and Beau.

Beautiful and creative ideas!
I love how you are still paying attention to all the details but making them more relaxed, less conventional and fun.
My favorite? The wedding cake and the headband

I love the alternative guest book options. We used wooden letters of our monogram for our guests to sign. The finished product is now hanging above our bed.

Great alternatives! I like the wedding cake donut alternative. We had small cakes per table instead of one big cake. We hate fondant and love buttercream icing plus we say this great DIY for a wood cake stand that we just had to have. It’s always nice to see wedding where the couple infuses their personalities and tastes into their special day instead of just following what is traditional and expected.

At my December 2012 wedding, my fiance and I are using the Jenga game as our guestbook. We love playing games, and will enjoying reading sentiments from our wedding guests when we play our game. :)

Ashley,
That is a really fun idea! It’s a great way to create a keepsake you’ll love to re-use after the wedding.
All my best,
