Have you heard of couples using vintage window panes as wedding decor? We love the idea of re-purposing old weathered panes into a decorative art piece at your wedding especially in the functional form of menus or window seating charts. Using window panes as seating charts will show your guests where they may be seated while also adding rustic or shabby-chic inspired charm. This idea of farmhouse-turned-folk-art isn’t new; in fact, we’ve seen plenty of unexpected items like furniture pieces popping up across the wedding scene not limited to window panes. (Remember the shabby chic photo display or the rustic wedding menu?) Today, we’re focusing on window seating charts. Find out how to make your own and discover our favorite handmade window seating charts below.
DIY Window Seating Charts
If you’re looking to craft your own, the tricky part will be finding the perfect window pane to use. Search estate sales or garage sales in your area to find an old, weathered window pane. People who know of their popularity will have them for sale; those who don’t will likely throw them to the curb at trash day, so keep your eyes peeled then, too. Also refer to EBay or Craigslist for people selling theirs. Or, if you or your fiancee is super crafty, you can make your own using wood and window glass. Once you have your window pane, you’ll want to use this kit by Rustoleum which can turn pretty much anything into a shabby chic masterpiece. (I have big plans for my dresser using this very same kit. And my mirror. Desk. Coffee table. You get the idea.) To make the names outlast smudging or rubbing off before the big day, we recommend metallic sharpie markers. However, if you’re planning on reusing the panes later, these washable markers by Crayola would work best – and, they’re specially designed for use on glass.
If you’d prefer an expert’s touch, we spotted a beautiful collection of handmade window seating charts available for purchase at Beyond White.
