How to Make Favor Tags Less Boring

Wedding favors are one of my favorite parts of the wedding planning process. While some may say favors aren’t necessary, I think they’re a totally fun detail that I love to see at weddings. However, they don’t need to be overly pricey or detailed. Keep it sweet, simple, and personalized — and your guests will love ‘em. We’ll talk about our favorite wedding favors for 2014 in a few days (stay tuned!) but today we’re focusing on favor tags. Any wedding favor you dream up, create, or buy will require some sort of personalization to make it your own. A popular (and easy-to-DIY) detail you can add is a tag. It can say thank you to guests, include your name and/or wedding date, and tie in your theme just a bit further. In this post, we’ll share favorite ideas for DIYing your favor tags PLUS one lucky reader will win one of the items below! Read on for the full scoop…

how to make favor tags less boring

classic kraft tag: dress my cupcake

Wedding Favor Tags

Wedding favor tags come in all sorts of sizes and shapes. Recently, I stopped in at a few local craft stores to get a glimpse on what’s popular right now. It seems like kraft favor tags are here to stay — and white tags are always popular for weddings, too. Mix and match different shapes by using scalloped tags or heart shaped tags

Pick a Tag, Any Tag

I also love round tags, especially for small favors (so they won’t overpower the item).

For more formal soirees, try these notched square favor tags with a silver-y border.

Guests can re-use these mini chalkboard tags! Chalkboard is still in… and it continues to be an emerging trend in weddings.

Add Some String

After you’ve picked a tag, you can add embellishment to is. Sometimes a kraft tag will come with standard twine which can be switched out for something more fun. Colorful twine, for instance, is one of my favorite options (especially for whimsical weddings).

pink lemonade (maya road), orange and white twine (hemptique), blue twine (maya road), yellow and white (hemptique)

For a rustic wedding, jute twine (almost rope-like) or hemp string are perfect accents.

Or, for a beach wedding, raffia is a natural (and fitting) option.

Stamp It

Finally, a stamp is the easiest way to personalize your favor tags. Add a stamp to your tag that incorporates your theme (such as an anchor for a nautical wedding, shell stamp for a beach wedding, bird stamp for a bird themed wedding, woodland animal stamp for a woodland wedding… you get the idea). If you choose a larger tag (like this style kraft tag), you can further personalize it with a big stamp that includes your names and the wedding date. Here are a few examples:

It’s that easy!

Now you have favor tags that are completely personalized, hand-picked (and DIYed) by you, and perfect for your upcoming wedding.

The measuring spoons and whisks were a hit at both showers.

Table Talk

Kraft paper details can be included on the reception tables but remember that less is more. You want to include the theme with subtlety, while also introducing colors, patterns, and textures into the mix. One way to dress up your tables is with kraft paper wrapped tin cans which can be made into DIY table numbers. This DIY project by Project Wedding (photo by Mary Swenson) is easy to do and works well for weddings or bridal showers. You can also craft these centerpieces with your monogram, the wedding date, or table ‘names’ instead of numbers.

For the reception, use a kraft paper table runner on each table decorated with bold pops of colorful flowers. Against the neutral brown shade, the colorful punches of color will be even more amplified! Plus, no worry about wrinkled tablecloths before the big day (these just roll right out) and after the wedding you can throw away! Brilliant. (Don’t forget a pack of crayons at the kids table, which will keep kids coloring for hours!)

12 Brilliant Ways to Wrap with Kraft Paper

Wrapping gifts – whether it be for the holidays, birthdays, or wedding favors and gifts – is more than just patterned paper and a roll of Scotch tape. The holidays are fast approaching, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for wrapped paper and tape by the case. What if this year you pledged to take a more handmade approach? With just a few items like kraft paper, ribbon, and other embellishments (lace, doilies, burlap, fabric, and more) you can turn an ordinary gift into one that packs a delightfully charming punch. Today, we’re showcasing twelve of our favorite ways to wrap with kraft paper while playing with color and adding personalized, artistic touches. Whether you wrap with kraft paper for the holidays, for wedding favors, bridal party gifts, birthdays, or just because, you can be assured the gift recipient will take notice and appreciate you going that extra handmade mile.
