5 DIY Wedding Secrets Every Bride Should Know

Hello, loves! Happy Friday! If you are planning DIY wedding projects for your big day, there are a few secrets to help it go off without a hitch. Today, we’ve compiled five of our favorite DIY weddings secrets that every bride should know to save you a headache down the road. DIY wedding projects can be fun, but they can also be overwhelming, too. And, since holiday break may be an excellent time to get crafting, we are also sharing some of our favorite DIY wedding kits to inspire you. Reveal what you need to know after the jump!

5 diy wedding secrets

5 DIY Wedding Secrets Every Bride Should Know

1. Know when to DIY – and when to buy.

What’s your DIY skill level? Are you skilled at painting or more sewing inclined? Find your strong suit and complete a project that ties into it. One example of a painting project you may want to undertake could be a DIY wedding cake topper, like this kit by Goose Grease. It comes with paints and wooden dolls so you can give it a go:

However, if your painting skills aren’t up to par – and you have a specific look in mind – it may be better to have a custom topper made. (This one is also by Goose Grease.)

2. Know WHERE to buy (+ how to save money).

It’s also important to know where to buy your DIY wedding supplies. Yesterday, we talked about mason jar mistakes to avoid and how buying in bulk can save you money. This also applies to any supply item you can think of, as long as you’re sure it’s the item you want (or you’ll have a headache trying to return and find the right item). One place you can order online is Amazon, which offers any craft item you can think of (and many in bulk). I’ve purchased these muslin spice bags in a pack of 100 and stamped them to make my own favors. I’ve also ordered mason jars in bulk to save money – and avoid the hassle of lugging 50+ mason jars home. You can also check Hobby Lobby online (their online store is amazing) to place an order or see what’s in store; then, print the 40% off coupon and bring it with you to buy. Look for coupons from Michaels and JoAnn to save you money, too, and make an effort to buy items only when you have a coupon.

If you’re looking for handmade details, check out The Marketplace to snag tags, envelope seals, blank place cards, and more. For instance, round scalloped paper tags from The Kraft Room can be an excellent canvas onto which you can print guests’ names, attach to twine with clothespins, and use as an escort card display at your wedding.

Or, add a custom detail to your favors with kraft bunting stickers (also from The Kraft Room):

Some artisans are willing to share their craft with you in a DIY wedding kit. One example is The Crimson Poppy who makes a DIY paper flower kit you can make at home.

And, here’s the result:

3. Pace yourself.

It goes without saying that even if you want to DIY every aspect of your wedding, you need to pace yourself. Give yourself plenty of time to buy supplies, create your crafting space, and complete projects before moving onto the next one. Few things would be more stressful than waiting until a few days before the wedding to complete a dozen crafts. And, the crafts should be fun – not stressful!

4. Call in your crew to help.

Don’t go at it alone! Your crew – you know, fiance, MOH, bridesmaids, mom – are there to support and help you. Just ask! I’m sure if they’re special enough to be in your wedding, they’re nice enough to lend a hand. But, they can’t help if you don’t ask – so, ask, ask away! (And reward them with plenty of food, drinks, and make it fun.)

5. If you don’t like it, scrap it.

Last but not least, if you work on a DIY wedding craft and it’s not going as planned (which will undoubtedly happen), scrap it. Start over. Or, move onto something else. If you don’t like how something looks, don’t settle because you spent time on it; move on and craft something you’ll love and of which you’ll be proud.

25 Best Escort Card Ideas for Weddings

Good morning + Happy Wednesday! We hope you grabbed a gigantic cup of coffee today (or tea) because we have quite the read for you today! This is one of those posts that inspired me (more than usual) while writing it, so I sincerely hope it does the same for you. (Be sure to pin it for re-reading later!) First things first… if you’re planning a wedding reception with assigned tables, you’ll need an escort card display. Escort cards inform your guests where they’ll be seated… so, rather than roam around from table to table to find their name, they’ll easily grab their card, a drink, and have time to mingle before sitting down for dinner. Escort cards may have been a bit basic in the past, but thanks to handmade artisans (+ photographers to capture their work!) escort cards are in a decor class all their own! Today, we are sharing twenty-five of the best escort card ideas to save you time, energy, and give you a much-needed jolt of inspiration to kick start your day. And, whether you’re planning a rustic, vintage, nautical, or otherwise themed wedding, we’ve got you covered. So, if you’re ready to be inspired… let’s begin! 7. Succulents in Teacups

Every time I go to Home Depot I check out the succulents. One of these days, I’ll finally buy a bundle and place in tea cups or terracotta pots. I love succulents and their minimalist (and chic) appearance. Plus, I hear they’re pretty resilient (great for newer gardener types like me!)

5 Surprisingly Chic Ways to Decorate with Paper Flowers

Wedding flowers can be hit or miss: either you love fresh flowers and dream of being surrounded by perfectly formed peonies (or another type of flower floating by in your wedding dreams) or wedding flowers may be at the bottom of your to-do list. Maybe you aren’t sure where to begin, you haven’t a clue what flower types are in season, you aren’t prepared to drop a pretty penny on something that inevitably wilts mere hours after the big day, or perhaps you just aren’t a fresh flower loving gal. Today, we are here to inspire you to see flowers in a new light: paper flowers, that is. Who knew paper flowers could be so chic? I certainly did not, and if you would have asked me years ago if brides would even consider using paper flowers in lieu of fresh flowers I would have imagined a wedding reception that looked like an arts and crafts show. Instead, the result is a surprisingly chic array of bright, vibrant, always-in-season blooms that will outlast the wedding cake (and many happy years of celebrated anniversaries). Read on to find out five of the most surprisingly chic ways to decorate with paper flowers, beginning with an interesting twist on paper flowers…

Decorate with Paper Flowers

1. Kusudama Paper Flower Bouquets in Mason Jars

This beautiful green flower bouquet handmade by The Little Red Button is handcrafted using a technique similar to origami known as Kusudama. These bouquets are lovely and can be crafted in any color scheme of which you can imagine…. check out both the green and yellow Kusudama paper flowers below:

2. Paper Flowers as Garland

A simple yet effective way to decorate with paper flowers? Paper garland! The lovely folks at Oh Happy Day even show you how it’s done in this clever tutorial here. The end result? This lovely garland you’ll want to reuse:

3. Paper Flowers on Branches as Centerpieces

You can craft red paper flowers and adhere to branches placed in pretty vases for a natural approach to decor. For instance, this is one way to perfect the paper flowers and branches look, as seen via The Kitchn:

4. Large Paper Flowers as a Table Runner

When it comes to vibrant paper flowers, the bigger they are the more visual impact they seem to make as illustrated in this photograph. The photograph is by Lauren Gabrielle Photography and was styled by Rock Paper Scissors Wedding and Event Design, based in New York. This was also showcased as a wedding inspiration shoot in Merci New York, which is totally worth the view. The entire shoot is gorgeous!

5. Paper Flowers + Fresh Flowers

Who says you have to use either all paper flower or all fresh flowers? Mix it up like this example, which combines the two into a perfectly arranged centerpiece idea for outdoor weddings:
