Pssst. There’s a giveaway in this post! ↓
Are you walking down the aisle barefoot? Do you want to, but you’re not sure if you *really* should? Today we’re answering the latest Ask Emmaline wedding advice question from bride-to-be, Mary. She asks:
“Hi Emmaline Bride! I’m planning a beach wedding in June. I tried on sandals but I haven’t found anything I like yet… I’m thinking about walking down the aisle barefoot instead. Can the bride walk down the aisle with bare feet or should I wear sandals since I’m the bride? Is there a certain etiquette for this? Please help!”
Walking Down the Aisle Barefoot
Great question, Mary! Walking down the aisle barefoot is sometimes the best way to do it, especially when sandals aren’t incredibly helpful on sand (I’m looking at you, flip flops!) If you feel most comfortable walking down the aisle barefoot, we say go for it. But there are a few things to consider before you make the decision, and we’re here to help with some expert tips.
Tips for Walking Down the Aisle Barefoot
1. Have a pair of shoes for the reception.
Obviously, you’ll want a pair of shoes to wear at the reception. Heels… sandals… a pair of flats, even. Most reception halls or places require you have shoes on. ;) I know this is totally obvious, but we don’t want you to leave without hearing every possible aspect of being a barefoot bride.
2. Make sure you have an awesome pedicure.
There will be many pictures of you walking down the aisle barefoot and immediately after the ceremony, so make sure you get a really fab pedicure.
3. Make sure the aisle is comfortable enough to go barefoot.
For a beach wedding, it’s obviously going to be comfortable enough to walk barefoot down the aisle. But other locations — the woods, grassy areas, trails, etc. — may not be the most comfortable on your feet. Rocks, sticks, etc. will be one heck of an uncomfortable walk. Scout out the area first, just to be sure. As another (more comfortable) option, use an aisle runner! Then you can be sure your walk will be a nice one.
4. Wear a pair of barefoot sandals.
Some brides who decide to walk down the aisle with bare feet opt to wear something called barefoot sandals. Barefoot sandals aren’t actually sandals at all: they are designed to look like you’re wearing sandals, but the bottom is totally open for your feet. This is a popular route for brides who will be walking down the aisle barefoot because it gives them a little accessorizing without the hassle of wearing actual sandals. Plus, these barefoot sandals from Destination Barefoot are customized to coordinate with your wedding. (P.S. You can get a discount right now: use code EMMABRIDE to save 15% on any order, valid until 6/30/2017.)
I hope that answers your questions about walking down the aisle barefoot. Remember, as in all details of your wedding, it’s really up to you! If you want to do something, we say go for it — you’ll be happier in the end knowing you made your own choices.
