The hardest part of planning for me is not having my mom there for it. My mom was diagnosed with cancer last year. I feel lucky that she was able to hear about my recent engagement and share happy moments before her final days, but I am extremely sad that she will not be there for the planning. I was looking forward to dress shopping with her, and even disagreeing on everything about the wedding. In the end, however my wedding turns out, I know she will be watching proudly.

One of the biggest struggles I am having is my fIance and I are now on our 7th venue change, and are hoping this one sticks. We picked a date that was important to us and then have had venues double book that date, tell us they can’t accommodate our numbers (big families) and one just straight tell us that another wedding that wanted the date would be bringing in more income so they got first dibs on the date.

The most difficult part for me has been all the small stuff associated with a “backyard” wedding. My biggest problem is interesting. My wedding isn’t until next summer and we have booked a venue, found a dj and photographer, and got my dress – get to finally try it on in two days!!!!
What’s been impossible is dealing with caterers! I can’t seem to be able to get in touch with either of the ones we are considering. They won’t answer their phone, or they’ll call while I’m at work and unable to answer. I feel like I’ve been going after them like you would with toddlers! Our wedding is set for 5/22/21 and we are determined not to move our date, but so many brides around my date are starting to postpone their weddings. The hardest part to be honest is how self centered wedding planning feels. We’re in a pandemic I get it, people are sick, people have lost their lives or people they love, people are losing jobs & have other priorities. Life has always been this way wether or not we’re in a pandemic but everything feels so intensified, the air just feels thick and full of tension instead of the butterflies and rainbows you imagined engagement being when you were young. It’s also really hard right now because businesses may close on you and you lose your money or they may have to cancel and again you lose money. It’s such a heart breaking time for brides.

Ooh, I agree, Alyssa! Who doesn’t love a custom sign with their name? I can’t think of one person. :) Great for the home afterward, too. And you know what, the signs can also be used as a makeshift guest book alternative. Just use an ultra fine-point Sharpie marker so it doesn’t smudge, writes thin, and won’t bleed; coat the wood in a thin layer of protectant after the wedding.

Yes, that is a tough one! Remember, some of the flowers used for the ceremony (the altar, chuppah, arch, etc. plus aisle decorations) can be transferred over to the reception before the festivities. This can save you a little money, since you won’t have to buy additional flowers for things like the cake table, entryway, sweetheart table, etc. Hope it helps. :)

Hi Bev! The easiest way to find budget-friendly vendors is probably word of mouth. Do you have any friends or family members who used wedding vendors they could recommend? Or try looking up vendors online and see if they offer estimates. This way, you know more of what to expect before you meet in-person (or Zoom!)

Hi Katie! Yes, good point: no one wants to have to do it themselves. Are you getting married at a location where the venue does not provide this service? Some places to set up for you and gather up the items at the end of the evening (you may need to pick them up the next day or so). If you’re without a venue that provides this, a day-of coordinator may be a great option for you.

Two things have been very difficult in my wedding planning.
1.) finding vendors for my 2021 wedding as most that had canceled weddings this summer have been rebooked
2.) getting my family on board with understanding that it is truly about me and my fiancé and our love for one another. They say that it is but their actions speak louder than words.

For us the hardest thing about planning right now is venue because of covid alot of the venues are booked for next year so dates are limited. Having a hard time trying to figure out if we should push it back until 2022 or not.
The biggest challenge of wedding planning right now would be choosing to have a destination wedding. This includes shortening the guest list, basically going blind with decor and most of all, trusting a complete stranger with my dreams and wishes!

The hardest part of wedding planning right now is all of the unknowns. There are soo many things extra that you have to do to have a wedding, and NO ONE wants to RSVP because they don’t know if they will be there or not because of COVID.
My sister was supposed to get married in April 2020, but had to push her date back due to COVID-19. Her new date is December 2021, and mine is November 2021. So, currently, I am most struggling with coordinating my wedding plans with her plans and trying to give her space to be a bride and feel celebrated while still having my own day.

The hardest part of planning so far has been deciding between real and fake flowers for my bridesmaids. I really want to be traditional with the real flowers, but I don’t know if it will be within the budget when it comes down to it.
Honestly, what hasn’t been tough? Right now we’re really struggling with the timing of everything. I was hoping to be able to spend time to really figure out what we want our vision to be, and get to meet multiple vendors to see who we really like. Unfortunately, there’s no time for that. Vendors are already booked from people postponing their weddings until next year, or many vendors in this area are closing permanently because they haven’t had enough work to continue. On top of house hunting, our wedding planning hasn’t been much fun. :-(
