My best girlfriend, Andria, is getting married this July and she is an amazing baker. She is completely self-taught and has created some of the most awe-inspiring cakes I have ever seen. And, she’s a real go-getter: for her upcoming nuptials, she is baking her own wedding cake! Some brides might be freaked out at the very thought of baking their own cake, but not Andria. Well, that’s because she knows what she wants and she’s not about to let someone else design it for her. (You go, girl.) Her tenacity inspired me to write this post about an amazing wedding cake you can bake yourself – whether it be for your wedding, bridal shower, or a weekend get-together with your girlfriends. Best of all? It looks A-MAZING. And, it’s EASY. So, if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make your own wedding cake…. let’s get started!

This clever, easy-to-diy cake tutorial was spotted via I Am Baker (one of my baking blog crushes) and shows you how to make a delicously simple wedding cake that looks beautiful. It’s a one-layer cake so it’s simple, easy-to-make and it will definitely impress your guests.
Let’s get started:
Start with a cake. Amanda uses a special vertical layer interior, but you can use any type you wish. It is important to use a good crumb coat, one that will conceal the cake underneath (you do not want the color of the cake underneath to show through).

Buy a 1M tip and put on a good layer of buttercream frosting (YUM!). (I am such a beginner at baking, so if you said ‘What is a 1M tip’ like I did, here’s an example.)
Begin with the side of the cake and make the roses. It’s easy to make a rose: begin in the center and move the 1M tip in a circle around the center point. Amanda mentions you should try to end in the same place each time.

The circumference should resemble this:

Then, continue to make roses in the same way onto the top of the cake:
