South Carolina Plantation Wedding
The bride Lauren tells us, “We knew we wanted the low country area, as we spent our first 2 years dating long distance in Charleston. Shelton was in grad school for Historic Preservation in Charleston so I would visit quite a bit! We LOVE the area! He grew up going to Pawleys Island for vacation with his family. It is a little quieter than Charleston and he knew of this plantation so he thought we should check it out. We fell in love with it and knew it was the right place for us!”
“We are doing (have done) most everything on our own. We are adding a lot of personalized touches such as the cross at the altar (Shelton and his dad have built). We will have a flowered wreath on it in honor of the grandparents who are not with us. I have put together the jars with burlap ribbon that will make the aisle for the ceremony and be on the steps in front of the house. I am also wearing my mom’s veil, my sister wore it as well.”
“The wedding party is very small (just family). My sister is my matron of honor and Shelton’s best man is his dad, and his brother is an attendant. My nephew Jud, and his nephew Bo are going to be ring bearers. His niece Georgia is going to be the flower girl. Shelton has 4 friends that will be ushers and I have 2 friends handing out programs, and 2 friends greeting the reception.”
“We wanted the ceremony to be very intimate and sweet. The pastor is from our home church in Raleigh and we have done our pre-marital counseling with him so it will be very meaningful.”
“The colors are coral and aqua with a little navy but there will just be pops of it here and there. I like a lot of white and lights so I didn’t want to overwhelm the scenery with bright colors. It will be kind of a rustic, shabby chic theme. The plantation is gorgeous enough on its own it really doesn’t need anything!”
