7 Tips to (Easily!) Make a Beautiful DIY Album for Weddings

Hello, Emma here! Right after my wedding, I made one of those hardcover photo albums from a big name print company that shall remain nameless. They did a decent job. But decent doesn’t really cut it when it comes to wedding albums. You want grandiose. You want exceptional. You want a buttery soft leather cover with professionally detailed layflat pages that totally rock out on your coffee table. My album? I loved it — but it was pretty basic. You know the kind, where you upload 400+ photos and it spits them out into collages. I should have known better, but I was on a post–wedding high! “Just get it done!“, I thought. And they mailed me a photo album that sort of left me with much to be desired. But what did I have to complain about? They did what I paid for: photos were inside an album. Case closed.

But in the back of my mind, I always sort of wanted something more. “But why order another album when I already had one?” I thought aloud to myself, and to my husband. Many times. Haha.

And then an opportunity presented itself to make my own DIY album for my wedding and I thought, why not, let’s give it a go. And I am so glad I did. Read to find out more about my experience with Shutterfly (note: not the company I used the first time around), see how my book turned out, and find out how easy it really is to do…

12 Fun + Creative Wedding Reception Backdrops

Are you planning a lovely handmade wedding? Get tons of ideas here and here!

If you’re looking for wedding reception backdrops — incredible, creative, and totally awe-inspiring backdrops — you’ve come to the right place! We’ve talked about backdrops in the past, including these creative ceremony doors and flower backdrops, which is still one of my favorite posts to date. Today, we’re honing in on wedding reception backdrops for use behind your head table, cake table, or as a photo booth wall. We’ve rounded up a mix of twelve unique finds from some of our favorite places. Ready to get started? Bring on the coffee (um, I’m rounding out my first pot as we speak. Hey, give me a break, I’m a tired mama!)

Bring on the inspiration!

Wedding Reception Backdrops

1. This huge heart backdrop

This would look stunning in your head table or sweetheart table photos. Or, have guests sign the little wood rounds as a makeshift guest book and hang it in your bedroom after the wedding. Love, love, love.

2. This palette backdrop

3. An exposed brick wall

One of our favorite looks is a modern exposed brick wall, which looks great as-is. Can you imagine lucking out with a wall like this?!

If you’re lucky enough to have a wall like this at your reception, use it to your advantage as a backdrop.

Go Faux: If you don’t have a real brick wall, go faux! You can use a backdrop support kit (we have a really inexpensive one, like this that works great) and faux brick fabric (like this from Spoonflower) draped from it. Or, if you have a spare wall, you can use removable faux brick wallpaper like this. It’s amazing and looks surprisingly realistic.

4. And this colorful fringe-y backdrop

Kitchen Bridal Shower Invitations + Ideas – Ask EB

We love hearing from our brides… and their moms, too! When Susan wrote to us about her daughter’s bridal shower, we swooped right in with inspiration. She’s planning a kitchen themed bridal shower, but was having trouble finding the perfect invites with a more modern feel. To help, we found kitchen bridal shower invitations with matching recipe cards for guests to fill out and bring to the party. Once we found those, it was easy to piece together some additional ideas. Check out the invitations by Lucy Loves Paper and see what else we found including a state cutting board, apron, personalized rolling pin (ahh, I want one of these), a recipe box, cookbook, and favors. Which of these finds do you love best? Besides those invites, I’m crazy over that apron… it’s darling!

What’s in the Bag

Tote Bag

We love this new canvas tote with aqua stripes. It has enough room for her swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, and everything you see here. By Thirty One Gifts, where you can get it embroidered, too.

LOVE Bracelet

This gold jewelry piece is simple and oh-so-sweet. It’s the perfect everyday bracelet she can wear to the beach — and beyond. By Ava Hope Designs.

Embroidered Towels

She can lay out in style on her own personalized beach towel. These are by Memento.

Bridesmaid Sunglasses

These fun bridesmaid sunglasses can be worn on the beach + at the wedding! Spotted here.

Flip Flops

These aren’t just ANY old flip flops. They have custom sayings that leave your mark in the sand! Our fave for this bag? “Follow me, bring wine”. There are more available, too! By Sand Imprint Sandals.

Floppy Sun Hat

I’m ordering this one stat. If you need a floppy hat (I mean, really, who doesn’t?) then this is one that’s inexpensive AND adorable. Spotted here.

Beauty Products

Fill a wristlet (we spotted the one shown from Thirty One Gifts) with some favorite beauty products, like nail polish, a stick of sunblock, waterproof mascara (this one is from Pürminerals), and her all-in-one makeup solution in a compact form (also from Pü The lip balm is ultra-nourishing and essential because, hot pink. From Maybelline.

Book to Read

And, last but not least, throw in a book she can read on the beach. I recommend Yes Please, but that’s because Amy Poehler is my spirit animal. Yours might be Tina Fey, in which case this would be an awesome choice. Or Mindy Kaling’s book which was so funny I laughed out loud (and I was sort of bummed when I finished reading it). Another favorite? This book by Ellen Degeneres. Pick any book she’d like (but we recommend something funny and entertaining). I mean, a dramatic book is just a little too serious for a relaxing bach weekend, ya know?

She’ll L O V E this gift. Promise. I know I would!
