Alicia, great question! The ring bearer can wear a boutonniere, but he doesn’t have to. The answer really depends on whether a) the boutonniere or lapel goes with his outfit, and b) whether wearing one will aggravate him. The ring bearer does not have to wear a boutonniere, but it does look nice in photos if all groomsmen — ring bearer included — have a coordinating boutonniere.

If it were up to me, I’d say YES, the ring bearer should wear a boutonniere. But I do understand he might not want to wear one. So, if your budget allows, do this: order a boutonniere for the ring bearer with the other boutonnieres. Worst case scenario? He ends up not wearing it and you give it away to another family member instead. There’s no hard rule that a ring bearer has to wear a boutonniere; it is a nice gesture from the bride and groom.
