Wedding website faq
For starters, one of the big questions we hear is, “are wedding websites necessary?” The answer: yes! In the modern age, guests have come to expect a central “hub” where they can find all the details of your wedding, accessible from a laptop, smartphone, or desktop computer. A wedding website makes it easy to keep in touch with guests and share the necessary wedding day essentials in one helpful place.
Passwords
Passwords are helpful to have; whether or not you need one is up to you. Do you want to make everything public knowledge? If not, you definitely need to add a password to your wedding website.
When should you make a website?
There’s no definite timeline on this but the answer is clear: as soon as possible! :)
Do you include rehearsal information on the website?
Yes. This is a great place to include your pre-wedding celebrations, including the rehearsal (and dinner!)
What to include on wedding websites?
EVERYTHING! Well, almost. We outline everything to include in our guide below.
How to Make the Best Wedding Website
Here are the top ten do’s and don’ts of wedding websites.
1. DO pick a theme.
The save-the-date used to be the first impression made on guests; in our modern world, digital wedding websites are now the first thing your guests will see! Make sure you select a wedding website theme that personifies your unique theme and style, even colors.
2. DON’T wait too long to make your wedding website.
Your wedding website should be one of the first things you do post-engagement. It’s an easy way to keep guests informed, add things as they come up, and keep everything organized. Plus, it’s fun. You can get a wedding website here.
3. DO include your registry.
One of the first questions guests have: “are you registered?” Make it easy by including your registry link and information on your wedding website. It will get you going on registry early, which isn’t a bad thing; it’s super fun to do and you’ll have lots of time to add to it.
4. DON’T forget to include travel information.
Whether guests are local or arriving from afar, you’ll need up-to-date travel details included on your website. Include things such as hotels nearby, pricing (if you have a reserved block), a map of the ceremony and reception, and even directions written out for traveling from the ceremony to the reception venue (if applicable).
If you really want to make your wedding website helpful for guests, include local “things to do” around town such as favorite restaurants, local bars, outdoor activities, where to shop (groceries, gas, coffee, etc.), and maybe family activities, if you’re inviting kids.
5. DON’T forget an updated timeline.
Your timeline will be the first place guests look on the wedding day/weekend itself, so make sure if anything changes, you make edits on your timeline, too.
6. DO include a password.
A password is so helpful to keep your wedding festivities private. This option is up to you, but highly recommended.
7. DO include pre-wedding celebrations.
But ONLY if everyone on your guest list is included. This is another reason why #5 is so important: why share information about the events to the public?
Pre-wedding festivities to include are:
-Engagement Party
-Bridal Shower
-Bachelor(ette) Party/parties
-Rehearsal + Rehearsal Dinner
Optional: Post-wedding Brunch
8. DO include fun information about you as a couple.
Guests love to read this section including things like how you met, how the proposal happened (and engagement photos if you have them). You can also include information on who’s who in your wedding party: tell a little about each groomsman or bridesmaid and how you know him/her. Photos of the bridal party are a great addition, too!
9. DON’T forget to include photos.
The more photos, the better! Wedding websites are one of the easiest places to make use of those beautiful engagement photos. I mean, how many times can you keep re-sharing them on Facebook?! ;)
10. DO include online RSVPs.
It’ll make your life SO MUCH EASIER. It’s a win-win for you and your guests! Who has the time to chase after non-rsvp guests anyway?
