Do wedding guests have to wear masks in 2021? Let’s discuss… be sure to subscribe if you’re a 2021 bride for the latest to your inbox.
This is a question I’ve been wondering myself, as many of you have, and what bride-to-be Melissa wrote us with the other day: will wedding guests need face masks at my wedding? Do I have to wear a face mask at my wedding? Does everyone still need to wear face masks at weddings? Ahh, so many questions! Let’s tackle it.
She writes,
“Dear Emmaline, After postponing my wedding last year due to Covid, we scheduled our new wedding date for February 13, 2021 (fingers crossed). Back when we rescheduled it in August, I assumed everything would be more normal by 2021 and wedding guests wearing face masks might not be necessary. However, now I’m seeing that might not be the case. Do you have any idea if wedding guests need to wear face masks for 2021, and if so, how can I prepare for it? Also, do I need to wear a face mask at my wedding? Thank you in advance.”
Do Wedding Guests Have to Wear Face Masks
Ah, great question! The answer to your question of if wedding guests will need to wear face masks for Coronavirus in 2021 is probably… YES. However, this depends on where you’re getting married, the number of cases, and what is mandated by local government.
Here in Michigan, everyone is still masking up and taking precautions, and our governor is recommending continued shut-downs on many businesses for the weeks and probably months to come. Many wedding venues are closed, since restaurants are closed to the public, so small weddings with a restaurant reception aren’t even an option at the moment. I’m not sure where your wedding is taking place, but hopefully by February most businesses — i.e. your venue, caterer, and vendors — will be back up and running in normal capacity, likely with mask mandates in place, though.
Plan Ahead: Guests Need To Wear Face Masks
I’m going to assume that, based on how things are at the current time, your bridal shower guests, bachelorette partygoers, and wedding guests need to wear face masks at weddings and celebrations at least into the first quarter of 2021, just to be on the safe side.
If you assume the answer to of whether you — yup! — and wedding guests need to wear face masks is a resounding yes, you’ll be more prepared in advance to have masks offered to guests and hand sanitizer stations, packets, etc. or even these hand sanitizer favors available.
When you plan ahead, especially with your wedding just a few short months away, you’ll be able to get face coverings for wedding guests to wear early, have them ahead of time, and save money down the line. This is because if you wait, like most people will be doing, until you know for sure whether guests need face masks at weddings, you may need to order at the last minute, pay rush shipping, or you may not get to pick out custom masks (if that’s your thing).
Of course, masks are not returnable. However, I’d venture to guess that most wedding guests will be happy to have face masks offered at your wedding even if they are not 100% mandatory, as some family or friends may feel better wearing on anyway.
And I suppose if, by your wedding date, guests are no longer required to wear face coverings, then hey, that’s good news for the virus and health of everyone! Right The worst case scenario is you end up with dozens of face masks you’ll need to figure out a use for at some point.
Either way, it’s a win: you’re either prepared with face masks guests need to wear at weddings or parties, or you have a surplus of face masks that are no longer needed.
It’s always best to be prepared, we say, especially when it comes to wedding things. And planning ahead for face masks just leaves you to no longer wonder about them and move along with other (way more fun) details of your wedding. :)
Need Face Masks for Guests to Wear?
Here are some options. If Andrew and I were tying the knot right now, we’d be planning ahead with these options. I think these resources are the best available, with the greatest reviews, pricing, and they look the best. If you’re going to need guests to wear them, they might as well be quality, am I right? :)
To make the wedding mask mandate a little easier, you can get custom face masks like these made for your wedding. Yup, they’re personalized face masks for guests and are the cutest ones we’ve been able to find! Great pricing, too. You can order as many or as few as you need, depending on your guest list size.
Here are just a few examples of the kind of face coverings wedding guests can wear, but remember: you can completely customize them here with your own names, monogram, motif, theme, style, color — you name it! These are all by For Your Party.
If you prefer reusable face masks in bulk for guests, try Joy and Chaos as an excellent option. These masks are personalized for your wedding and can be washed and worn again.
And if you don’t care about personalization, you just want guests to have face masks to wear to your wedding in bulk and for cheap, these reusable masks by BulkMasksUS are a great option.
And finally, if you want the cheapest masks for wedding guests, go disposable with no customization. These are available in a bulk size of up to 200 masks for guests for only $0.59 each at Zazzle. They’re plain but they get the job done!
And don’t worry, wedding guests don’t mind wearing face masks at your wedding if it means they get to celebrate with you. Just chalk it up to another weird 2020 thing that is trickling into 2021, but with a vaccine available, we hope coronavirus is eventually a thing of the very distant past.
Stay safe out there! Thanks so much for writing, Melissa, and fingers crossed for the best day ever ahead!
Happy Planning!
