One of the most asked questions we get — especially at this time of year — pertains to wedding attire. Couples are gearing up for late-summer and early fall barn weddings and so many brides are wondering the same thing: what should the groom wear for a barn wedding? How dressed up does he need to be? We received a question from bride-to-be, Jessica, who writes, “My fiancé and I went to look at suits for the first time ever yesterday and we were overwhelmed. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, let alone that there are so many options! We are getting married in a barn so he doesn’t want anything over the top fancy. We really like how some barn relaxed weddings don’t always go the suit route, but that makes it a lot more difficult on our part because we need to use more imagination than just picking out the nicest of the black suits! Thanks so so much in advance!” Great question, Jessica! Read on to see what we recommend for barn wedding groom attire…
Barn Wedding Groom Attire
For a barn wedding, the most popular attire we see for the groom is a light colored suit (either gray or beige) paired with a dress shirt, tie, and dress pants. Some grooms opt for a vest, too.
We would recommend that grooms skip the tuxedo for a barn wedding. Instead, consider one of these options.
We almost always see the groom wearing a suit coat for formality (and to set himself apart), even if just for the ceremony and photographs.
But you don’t have to wear a jacket either. We love this jeans and vest groom attire for barn weddings…
We hope these looks helped on your quest for the groom’s attire!
If you need advice on where to shop, we’ve had great luck with Jos A. Bank and Dessy (check out their suits collection under Mens Formal Wear).
