Hi, loves! Emma here and today we’re talking about the wedding gift registry — specifically, Amazon’s wedding gift registry. When I got married — which wasn’t really that long ago — our wedding registry was pretty traditional. Andrew and I registered at two big box chains and many items were only available in-store. Online shopping was somewhat popular but not as typical for bridal showers and weddings as it is today. But now, there are so many online registry options and it’s hard to know where to register. So today, we’re giving you a recommendation to make it easier. I’m sharing with you the top 10 benefits of the Amazon gift registry and why you might want to consider one for your wedding. Also, keep in mind that you can create a registry online and also have an alternate registry in-store, if you’d like. It is convenient to have two options for guests who might not shop online.
Read on to find out why an Amazon registry might be the perfect choice for you. The top reason (#1 at the bottom of this post) is one that might surprise you. And it’s pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. Enjoy!
Amazon Gift Registry Weddings
I’ve picked out 10 reasons why I think Amazon is the best wedding gift registry. Here they are, with the top (#1) as the reason why I know YOU will love it, too.
Benefits of an Amazon Gift Registry
10. Register from your couch.
It’s cold outside. Who wants to travel in the cold icy rain (over here anyway) to go register? With traffic? And carts in your way? And annoying elevator music? And handfuls of papers and a store clerk who wants to help you pick items you’ll NEVER need and NEVER use? Not me! Not me! Stay indoors, put on some cute pjs, listen to your own playlist, break out that laptop, and make some coffee. It’s registry time!
9. Hello, reviews!
When you register in-store, you’re gambling on products you probably know very little about. You’re basing your decision on what looks the best vs. the price vs. how often you’ll actually need/use it. And of course, how badly you want it. That’s because when you’re adding many items to your registry at once in store, you don’t have a valuable resource at your fingertips: REVIEWS. You could pull out your phone at every stop and look up a product’s reviews independently online, but who has that kind of time? And if you’re going to to that anyway, why not just START on the couch? (See #10 above.) Amazon is known for its product reviews from real customers who have purchased the item (and many even show “verified” to prove it was purchased on Amazon) so you can see what product is best for you. And which ones burn out after just a few short months.
8. Strong price competition.
If I had to sum up Amazon in one word, I would say competitive. Many products have an equal to or better price than other chain stores I have seen. And this means money savings that really adds up for your guests.
7. Free shipping.
I’ve already touched briefly on Amazon Prime and its awesome two-day shipping on most products. Check out more benefits here.
Bottom line here: if guests already have an Amazon Prime account (you’d be surprised how many probably do), they’ll receive free two day shipping on many of your Amazon gift registry items. And that’s pretty convenient, especially if any of them are last-minute shoppers.
AND… most of your gifts will ship for FREE for non-Prime members if the gift is $49 or more.
If you don’t have a Prime account, you can get a Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial. The shipping is just part of the fun. You can also instantly watch thousands of movies and tv episodes — I do, all the time — and borrow Kindle books! Give it a try! And who can forget the streaming music? Great for creating that perfect wedding playlist!
6. Personalization.
When you create a wedding registry on Amazon, you can personalize your page with a photo of you two, add comments about the items you picked out, even rank some gifts as higher priority than others. This is helpful in a situation where you might register for a coffee maker and an espresso maker, and obviously you’re going to use the coffee maker more often so you might mark it as ‘priority’. The espresso maker would be a nice gift to have, but maybe not as important to you day-to-day as a coffee maker would be. That’s just one example, obviously. (And how I always come back to coffee as my example, I’ll never know.)
Furthermore, you can share your registry online with a link right on your wedding website.
5. Easy to manage.
The Amazon wedding registry interface is easy to use and ridiculously easy to manage. Forget something at 3am? Log in and add it in. Changed your mind about the fine china you selected? Hurry and make the change. My only recommendation is to not REMOVE anything from your list after you’ve officially published the link on your wedding website. Some guests like to shop early and it will be confusing if you keep removing and adding replacements. You can ADD items anytime; just hold off on removing anything.
4. Discounts on remaining gifts after the wedding.
After your wedding, Amazon gives you a one-time coupon code for 20% off (Prime members only) or 10% off (non-Prime members) anytime else your little heart desires on Amazon.com. And that’s pretty amazing, since there are rarely any coupons or promo codes available to use on Amazon. Believe me, I’ve checked. Ha.
3. Amazon has an awesome return policy.
Okay, this one’s a biggie: some other chains, who shall remain nameless, are AWFUL when it comes to returning gifts from your registry. Many registries are limited on the amount of time you can return a gift for cash, which means you’ll only get store credit. Sometimes, if the item is no longer in stock or on clearance, they’ll give you the lowest price value on a store gift card. That’s a bummer, especially when you’re super busy after the wedding with honeymooning, writing thank you cards, and then moving or packing or unpacking or getting your dress professionally cleaned or creating that perfect wedding album. Amazon offers a stellar 180-day worry free return policy.
And gift cards can be added to your Amazon gift registry, too, which never expire! Woo!
2. It is more reliable.
It seems Amazon’s registry is more reliable in real-time than other stores. In the past I have purchased gifts in store and had the registry scanned to mark as “purchased” on the list, only to have multiple guests purchase the same item.
#1 Reason Why Amazon Gift Registry is Awesome
1. Register for ANYTHING.
It’s too vast to simply tell you Amazon is awesome because it has literally everything under the sun. More importantly, you can register for ANYTHING from ANY STORE with their simple “Universal Registry Button”. It is a handy browser application that “turns the Internet into your own personal mall.” This application is quick to download and install, and lets you keep track of what you want from any website in just a few clicks. Here’s why I know you’ll love this. Flashback: when Andrew and I were registering, we went to Ikea and asked the manager if we could register. They had no registry set up yet (I still think they do not, which is a shame) and that meant furniture, cool lamps, unique decorations, etc. were out. And a few years ago, I was at Menard’s and they just unveiled their wedding registry. I thought, how cool, register for tools, decor, lumber, tile, flooring… anything you could ever want for your home. That makes perfect sense to me. On Amazon, you can register for any AND all of it: Furniture. Lumber. Coffee makers. Desk chairs. Patio furniture. Camping equipment. Drapery. Computers. Cameras. Cookware. TVs. Books. Bedding. Photo printers. You get the idea.
But most importantly, this is a total game-changer for the handmade community! And we ♥ that! This means gifts you really, really want on Etsy, on Amazon, art from Minted, stuff you’ve had your eye on at Sur La Table — literally anywhere you shop online — can now be shopped by guests for items you really want for your big day! This means you can register for your favorite handmade gifts — like these newly engaged gifts, one of these themed wedding ideas, personalized + cute mugs for waking up together, adorable doormats, an awesome cake server to use forever, literally anything! — along with your regular “traditional” housewares like coffee makers, toasters, towels, and bedding. All in one convenient place.
It’s supporting small businesses and handmade shops right on your registry. And I adore that.

Anyways, I hope this helps when you try to decide where to register for your wedding! I wish it was an option when I got married. It probably was, but I didn’t hear a recommendation for it and it was probably no where near the benefits it offers today.
