Adam and Nicole’s Cross Country Engagement Shoot

Today we’re featuring the amazing story of Adam and Nicole’s cross country engagement shoot. Their engagement shoot took place throughout multiple states, traveling thousands of miles, and shooting timeless photos in some of the most beautiful settings. Their traveling companions, and creative photographers, the husband and wife team of Rodney and Jodi, from The Gehmans did a wonderful job capturing the cross country relationship of Adam and Nicole.

Rodney tells us, “To set the stage, we’ll tell you a bit about Adam and Nicole: Nicole had worked for us for the past few years, and when she told us about Adam, we of course were quite excited to meet him! Adam lived in Los Angeles CA, almost 2000 miles away from where Nicole lives in Keota, IA, leaving them a relationship of hours of phone calls and Skype dates between trips to see each other. They met while working at an orphanage together in China with an organization called “Bring Me Hope“, and have dreams of heading back overseas together once they are married.

Adam had decided he would move to Iowa to be near his bride, so they suggested we come to California to photograph their engagement session, kind of as a “last hurrah” for the west coast portion of their relationship. We went, because Iowa is quite different from California in almost every way, and we’ve always wanted to work there. :) So, a few weeks ago, we ended up in California, and started creating their photographs at the airport in Torrence, CA where Adam learned to fly airplanes, and ultimately got his pilots license.

Afterwards, we went to a beach along Malibu Shore to the very spot where Adam proposed to Nicole!

The day after our photo shoot with them, we rented a car, loaded up all of Adam’s belongings and the four of us drove the 1800 miles from Los Angeles to our house in Kalona, IA in about 28-29 hours! See, I told you they were a wonderful couple, because you don’t just drive 28 straight hours with someone who isn’t fun to be with, right? Along the way, through the desert in California, we stopped at an abandoned gas station for a few more images which provided for an awesome background.

Our goal was to make it to Arches National Park in Utah before the sun went down for our last session. We got there too late, but did end up getting one shot of Adam and Nicole with the stars in the sky and made it out of the park alive!”
