It’s a beautiful day for a new wedding advice question! This comes to us from Alison who wants to know about silicone wedding bands for women. She is thinking about wearing a silicone (rubber) wedding band instead of a metal ring, but she isn’t sure if it’s the right choice.
She writes,
“Hi Emmaline Bride, I have a question. What do you think of silicone wedding bands for women? I’m thinking of getting one instead of a traditional metal ring. I don’t like wearing jewelry and I frequently bike and go to the gym so jewelry isn’t really practical for me. Do you know of any stylish bands so it’s not just a rubber band on my finger? lol Thanks for your advice.”
Hi Alison! Ah, the silicone wedding band discussion.
These silicone wedding rings came into view a few years back and everyone went crazy over them, namely because they’re made of a silicone rubber and they’re extremely comfortable.
But then the silicone rings because streamlined due to cheap imposters in local big box retailers and you didn’t hear much about them for a while… then COVID… and now they’re back, sort of as popular as ever before. Whew.
In your question, you asked me what I think of silicone wedding rings so here’s my honest opinion: I like them a lot actually, but as a jewelry wearer, a silicone band is not for me.
I have a white gold wedding band and I love to wear jewelry, so traditional wedding bands are my go-to. Besides, my wedding ring has never come off of my finger and now it’s practically glued right beneath my knuckle, so even if I wanted to try a silicone band I can’t remove my rings to try it out. (Ha!)
The amount of soap it would take… I mean, they could come off, but they’re stuck to me now. ;)
However, I know many people, including my sister and a few friends who LOVE silicone wedding bands. And dang, they know how to rock ’em!
Here are some pros to wearing silicone rings vs. metal.
♦ Dislike Wearing Jewelry
One of my friends hates wearing jewelry so much that she almost decided to wear no ring at all, but she wasn’t crazy about that idea so she eventually tried a silicone band and loved the way it felt like nothing was on her finger at all (and of course, she was sold once she saw the many colors you can pick!)
♦ Save Money
One huge selling point of silicone rings? They’re insanely affordable!
♦ Allergic to Metal
Ah, silicone rings to the rescue! No itchy fingers or guessing what kind of metal won’t cause a reaction.
How to Decide: Silicone vs. Metal?
And for cons to wearing silicone, I can’t think of any. I think the big difference is this:
do you envision a classic metal ring set on your finger?
or
are you OK (and happier) with a silicone band?
That’s all you need to decide, really!
♦ Do Women Wear Silicone Rings AND Traditional Metal?
Can you really have the best of both worlds? Sure, you can! Some women decide to wear both: they have a silicone wedding band and a traditional wedding ring.
They don’t wear them AT THE SAME TIME obviously (ha!) but they alternate between wearing them at certain times. For instance, active lifestyles like bikers or gym enthusiasts (as you mentioned) may like to put on a silicone band when they’re busy living life and save the metal band for special occasions.
Some couples buy a set of rubber or silicone bands to wear on vacation so they don’t have to worry about losing their actual rings.
Not all silicone wedding bands for women are created equal. FACT.
However, one of the big reasons that women like silicone wedding bands is how affordable they are. With this being said, though, don’t go super-duper cheap. Go mid-range.
We saw seriously cheap ones at a local (ahem) big box store. I tried it on and it looked like a ripped off a piece of black rubber and wrapped it around my finger. Not cute, not comfortable.
There are actual silicone bands that are inexpensive and look great, are built to be durable, and won’t look like a piece of rubber ripped off and hangin’ out on your hand. :)
I’ve also heard that some cheap bands can cause a rash, so cheaper is not always better.
Where to Buy Women’s Silicone Wedding Rings
Here are a few suggestions of high-quality silicone wedding bands for women you’ll love! Whether you plan to wear them all the time or just occasionally on vacation or exercising, you’ll love the way these feel like wearing no jewelry at all.
We found the best silicone wedding bands for women from two stores on Etsy:
and
Here’s some more information on the different rings at both shops.
Unique Textured Rings
The first offers breathable and textured rings (or patterned, which is fun, too) and two-toned silicone bands for women. These are by theOLaVida.
These rings are affordable (we spotted some for $8!) and oh-so-colorful. They’re breathable, comfortable, and offer a rustic texture on the top that gives it a unique look, sort of like wood grain!
Two-Tone Silicone Band
Um, the price of this is amazing! Grab a few of them! Also by theOLaVida.

Solid Silicone Bands
And secondly, these silicone bands for women are designed with a comfortable curved inner wall for enhanced breathability. Its cut is made to resemble a metal ring (and not a toy rubber ring or that weird cheap rubber I found at that store earlier, ha!)
These are available in many colors from Knotheory in popular shades, like rose gold (a fan-favorite for sure!)
Engraved Silicone Bands
And last but not least, if you think silicone bands means no engraving, think again! They’re engravable, made possible by Knotheory.

So, whether you’re thinking about wearing silicone rubber or a classic metal band, the choice is totally up to you. You can’t go wrong!
Thanks, Alison, for writing! I hope it helps.
Happy Planning!
