What should a bridal shower invitation say? We’ll tell you! Today we’re talking about bridal shower invitation wording examples so you follow proper etiquette for the party.
This question was inspired by Emmaline Bride reader Laura, who is planning a bridal shower for her daughter. She asks,
“Dear Emmaline Bride, I am planning my daughter’s wedding shower and I want to make sure the bridal shower invitation wording is correct. What should a bridal shower invitation say, specifically for the RSVP and the gift registry? Thanks in advance.”
Great question, Laura! It seems there is always an etiquette rule to follow everywhere you turn for weddings, doesn’t it?! We’re here to steer you in the right direction. :)
Here is the answer to what should a bridal invitation say and bridal shower invitation wording examples, along with some new invites from Minted.
On to the list!
Bridal Shower Invitation Wording
Here is the proper wording for a bridal shower invitation. Here is what a bridal shower invitation should say:
1. The name of the guest(s) of honor
It is recommended to use the full name to avoid any confusion. If the shower is co-ed, include both names of the couple.
This can be informal, such as “April 8th at 12:00 pm”, rather than using numerals or spelling out the date as you would on formal wedding invitations.
Use a full address to avoid confusion (and make it easier for guests to plug it into their GPS).
4. RSVP information
There is no RSVP card with a bridal shower invitation, so a bridal invitation should say how you wish for guests to RSVP, i.e. a phone number and/or email address. Guests love an easy email option. Be sure to include a date for RSVPs, at least a week prior to the shower (or when your venue needs a final headcount).
5. The name of the host
This is optional, but nice to include. Something along the lines of, “Given by…” and the host (or hosts) name(s).
6. Registry information
In the past, invitation etiquette dictated you should avoid including wedding registry information on the invitation itself, as it looked too “gift grabby”.
But modern etiquette dictates you may include the registry information as long as it doesn’t rule the invitation. The bridal shower invitation should say something along the lines of, “The bride (or couple) is registered at…” — simple enough!) Alternatively, you can include a separate registry card as an enclosure with the bridal shower invitation. Bridal shower invitations with registry information are common today, so don’t be shy about including them.
Also, guests love the option of a registry, which makes it so much easier to pick out a perfect gift.
7. Any additional information
Are you including a recipe card for guests to fill out and bring with them (for a kitchen themed shower)? Or a “words of advice” card for a book you’re putting together for the bride?
If there are any “extras” like this, you can include them on the invitation or on an enclosure card.
