Lindsey + Jared tied the knot in a picturesque handmade beach wedding in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The happy couple enjoyed beautiful weather, their closest friends and family members, and a memory of what Lindsey recalls as, “the most perfect day”. That’s what we love to hear! Lindsey is a friend and featured artisan in The Marketplace (of the lovely Lost and Fawned) and she wholeheartedly supports and admires handmade weddings. So, it was no surprise that most of the wedding day details she incorporated were handmade or DIY-inspired. Since we love to hear about the day directly from the bride… take it away, Lindsey!
“The wedding took place on August 15, 2009 in Cannon Beach, Oregon.
Our goal was to create an intimate, casual atmosphere for our guests. Most (probably 80%) were from out of town and many had never been to the pacific northwest. I really wanted to show off the sights and flavors I grew up around.
Our caterer used local flavors like berries, Oregon Bay Shrimp and salmon and fused it with some of our favorite things like Italian food and Thai flavors to create a menu that reflected us perfectly. We had a “create your own pasta station” and guests had almost unlimited options to make a dish of freshly tossed pasta that was completely unique. All the beer and wine was local and we also featured a huge pitcher or fresh fruit sangria instead of cocktails as well as Oregon Strawberry Lemonade and citrus infused water.
We let the picturesque view of Haystack Rock do most of the talking and kept the rest of the decor fairly simple. A friend of ours picks up flowers from the local flower market and the morning of the wedding my grandma and aunt arranged them in an assortment of milk glass vases, bowls and pedestals my mom has been collecting. With the help of my mother-in-law, I sewed hundreds of pretty patterned napkins to bring a little texture to the tables. Many guests actually took them home as a souvenir. I also made a simple string of pendants the drape across the breezeway over our cake table.
We had a beautiful day that was a little breezy but no rain, which is a blessing at the coast where the weather is extremely unpredictable. During the wedding on the beach we had quite a few wedding crashers looking on, but it was funny more than anything. I guess you just have to expect that when you have the wedding in such a public place during a very busy time. The sunset was gorgeous and we finished the evening with a bonfire on the beach. It was the most perfect day.”
