How do you mail magnet save the dates? Can you even mail save the date cards? How do you package save the date magnets?
Ah, so many questions for a magnetic card! :)
If you’re wondering whether you can mail magnets, we turned to the USPS for the official rules!
Can you mail magnets at the post office?
According to their website, yes, you can mail magnet save the dates, gifts, etc. as long as they are:
– Enclosed in the flat-size mailpiece, and either one of the following:
1) affixed to the contents,
2) wrapped within the contents to prevent excess shifting, or
3) envelope is filled with “no more than 1/2 inch clearance between the left and right edges of the magnet and the mailpiece edges”

Thicker magnets may have other stipulations; I know you can’t mail magnets that are thick or very strong. But couples have been mailing thin fridge magnets as save the date cards for years and it’s easier than ever before, as long as you follow the guidelines and use the right size and have proper covering over the magnetic side of the card.
Let’s discuss it!
How to Mail Magnet Save the Dates
Now that you know you can mail most (thin!) save the date magnets, how much is that going to cost you in postage? We all know that postage adds up quickly for wedding invitations, so you may have wondered if you can mail magnet save the dates the same way as any traditional card.
The answer is… not necessarily!
Depending on their size, magnetic save the date cards may require more than a few stamps to mail them out. In fact, if they’re a heavy card alternative — i.e. a wooden save the date magnet, for instance — it may cost even more than an extra stamp and may need to be sent out in these bubble mailers.
HOWEVER, we found the solution: these smaller, cost-efficient magnet save the dates by Save The Date Originals. We were excited to find out they are made in a 2.5×4 inch magnet size that makes mailing out your save the dates more cost effective vs. other magnets that are larger in size.
This size is not too big, not too small; it is made with quality printing and has a nice glossy finish. Choose a design with your photo, or skip the photograph and choose a fun pattern instead. Angie offers both (and she’s super easy to work with!)
♦ Can you mail save the date magnets in a regular envelope?
With these magnets, yes! This smaller magnet size can be mailed out in a traditional (5×3.5 inch) envelope. A regular stamp should be enough postage to send it on its way.
♦ Do you receive a card to reduce magnetism?
Yes! When you order these magnets from their shop with envelopes, you’ll also receive a plain black card for each magnet to help reduce magnetism through the envelopes. You’ll also receive a peel-n-press seal on the envelopes to make it easier than ever to send.
♦ How much is shipping when you order these smaller save the date magnets?
You’ll get FREE shipping anywhere in the USA.
