Origami Wedding Flowers
Origami – the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures – is trending right now for paper bouquets. Origami is an ancient tradition yet is gaining in popularity for weddings; besides being inherently beautiful, origami are an excellent long-lasting alternative to fresh flowers. Origami adds a fun, colorful, and textural element to any wedding. We especially love it for modern or geometric themed weddings.

Isn’t it incredible?! Hannah creates a wide variety of origami flowers for weddings (or just because!) in many sizes and colors.
She makes lots of origami wedding flowers… and the occasional origami earring set, like this pretty pair:
Origami can be used in your any wedding flowers (i.e. bouquet or boutonniere) including your centerpieces:
With origami wedding bouquets, you have the opportunity to have a one-of-a-kind handmade piece created with your wedding colors matched perfectly.
Origami paper — unlike fresh flowers — won’t wilt, require refrigeration, or need to be placed in water immediately after carrying down the aisle. They won’t make you sneeze, they won’t clash with your wedding colors, and they won’t be thrown away shortly after the big day. Instead, you can keep your origami wedding flowers forever! Place your bouquet in a favorite vase or jar on your desk to always think of your special day.

Hannah from katiemadeorigami designed custom origami wedding flowers for bride-to-be Phillippa last Autumn. Phillippa came to Hannah to make a posy of a few stems she could keep as a souvenir of her wedding day. In honor of her mother, Philippa wanted a flower similar in design to a violet, and since its colors borrowed elements from the wedding (i.e. her invitations, the long velvet coat she wore once the sun went down), Hannah knew she would be able to make the perfect origami bouquet for the bride.
Hannah got to work designing different samples of 5 origami wedding flowers featuring petals, showed them to Philippa, and together they decided on one design which used a repeating fold for each petal. Hannah used color samples to select five different textured fabrics, silk satins, crepes, and cottons to ensure each petal would offer a subtly different hue and texture. This would also enable the flowers to not appear flat.
After creating the petals, she bound the six stems together with green ribbon to coordinate with the other elements of the wedding, finishing off the look with a Swarovski crystal on each flower.

The result was, as you can see, absolutely beautiful… and the bride was happy! As the bride tells her,
“Absolutely gorgeous… better than I’d imagined when I thought of it originally. Thanks again!” -Philippa
