Are you wondering what kind of earrings bridesmaids wear? I was wondering the same thing when I was getting married.
If you are figuring out how to accessorize bridesmaid dresses, jewelry is the easiest way to do it. Shoes, purses, and wraps like these are a close second.
Jewelry is not only the easiest way to accessorize a dress, but it’s also one of the most beloved gifts to give bridesmaids.
Necklaces are lovely, but hard to pick out in terms of length and neckline, especially if bridesmaids are wearing infinity dresses. Rings aren’t large enough to see in photos, and they’re also tough to estimate in sizing.
But earrings frame the face, add a pop of color, and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. They’re the triple-threat! They’re affordable, too. Now, let’s just hope everyone in your bridal party has their ears pierced. :)
So, what kind of earrings do bridesmaids wear? Do bridesmaids have to wear the same jewelry? Let’s break it down.
What Kind of Earrings Do Bridesmaids Wear?
Earring styles for bridesmaids vary, depending on dress style and the tone / theme of your wedding. Contrary to what big jewelry stores probably want you to believe, bridesmaids do not have to wear “blingy” / expensive jewelry, unless of course you’re planning a black-tie wedding. Or you want blingy jewelry. It is really up to you.
Follow these two rules:
Theme
Bridesmaid earrings should mimic the feel of your wedding (fancy? informal? modern? beach?)
Metal Tone
Choose a metal tone that complements the bridesmaid dress color.
STYLE
According to Harper’s Bazaar, the following earring styles are hot this year in fashion.
• Hoop earrings
• Studs
• Drop earrings
• Chandelier earrings
• Tassel
• Ball drop earrings
• Ear cuffs
• Geometric earrings
• Mismatched earrings
For weddings, the same fashion trends apply; for bridesmaids, here the top trends in earrings that look great in photos and won’t overpower their dress. As a bonus, these styles are versaile enough to wear again. For examples of each style, we’ve selected pieces from Rustic Gem Jewelry. They have earrings in nearly every category above, all at really great prices, too.
• Studs
Pearl stud earrings and druzy are the most popular options.
• Drop earrings
Silver or gold metal with a shiny, colorful gemstone drop earrings like these are classic, elegant pieces.
• Chandelier earrings
Big, bold, statement-making styles are on-trend for modern weddings.
• Tassel
Tassel earrings are available as a “fan” style or chandelier tassel.
Do bridesmaids wear jewelry that looks exactly the same?
The answer to this is no — well, sort of. Bridesmaids do not have to wear the exact same pieces of jewelry. We do recommend choosing similar metal colors, though, as well as similar styles if possible. This makes everything look more cohesive and pulled together in photographs. We think it is fun to mix-and-match bridal party earrings by selecting a color she loves best and keeping with the same metal.
For instance, a pair of drop earrings like these in silver or gold can look slightly different depending on the color gemstone you choose. Pick one for all bridesmaids or select a unique gemstone for each bridesmaid to wear for a mix-and-match look that still appears balanced in photos.
If you’re picking out earrings for bridesmaids to wear, the other jewelry should be minimal or at least match in metal tone. If you’re able to find a complete set that is great, but not a requirement.
Now that you know what kind of earrings bridesmaids wear, you can start shopping. We hope this helped you to decide between popular styles and maybe even identify a new favorite trend.
I like the idea of mismatched earrings; honestly, I didn’t really know that was “in”. One time back when my four-year-old was a newborn, I put on two different earrings and wore them around all day, due to lack of sleep. Apparently I was a trend-setter and didn’t even know it. ;) I sure had a good laugh once my coffee kicked in and I saw myself in the mirror.
What do you think of these styles? Are you gifting earrings to bridesmaids?
