Let’s get to it: you have a wedding to register for! ;)
Best Places to Register for Wedding 2022
Okay, let’s get to it, starting off the list with why you need a registry at all and what it really is.
What is a wedding registry?
What is a wedding registry? It’s a gift list curated by you and received by guests. It’s pretty much awesome when you really think about it: you and your partner choose gifts you love, want, and can use. Guests access the gift list — aka your “registry” — and purchase gifts for you from it.
I think it’s the easiest way to choose gifts together, figure out your style, and request things from guests you’ll actually use without asking for gifts in a tacky way.
Where to Register
There are several places to register these days, but there are few that are considered the best places to register for wedding, especially because some are better with benefits than others. Some places I’ve seen couples register at are awful: the lists never update properly, the gifts are always duplicated as a result, and the interface is NOT user-friendly. We won’t mess you up by recommending those registries.
Here are the best places to register for weddings in 2022, period.
1. Amazon: Create a Registry
Ah, Amazon: it is easily one of the best places to register for weddings since many people are very familiar with shopping here and admittedly may even shop too often. :)
PROS Making an Amazon registry takes less than a minute and is easy to do. Plus, a registry on Amazon is free. You can add items from any website to your Amazon registry, making it a “universal” option that couples crave. They offer great shopping guides and what to add to your Amazon wedding registry makes it a snap to pick out items you love. You get up to a 20% completion gift off most products on Amazon after the wedding. To top it off, the reviews are very helpful when deciding which items to add to your registry (and which ones to skip).
CONS There isn’t a lot to say negatively about Amazon’s wedding registry. One con to their wedding registry is it’s all online, so you can’t really see gifts you’re going to buy or add to your registry in person. This can be a negative if you want to see the gifts in-store, as that doesn’t really exist. Another drawback is that shipping is super fast for Prime members, but you have to be a Prime member to take advantage of the free 2-day shipping. (If you’re not a member, get it for 30 days for free here).
2. Target: Create a Registry
Targe is one of the best wedding registry places simply because it is a low cost option for wedding gifts and is a fun place for people to shop.
PROS You can shop for wedding gifts from the registry in person, helpful since there are many locations everywhere. You can add items to your wedding registry in-store, so you actually see the quality first-hand before adding it to your list.
CONS The stock changes so quickly at Target for many seasonal items, so if you add them to your list too early and they go on clearance, guests have a really hard time tracking them down and it’s nearly impossible to find those particular gifts.
3. Zola: Create a Registry
Zola is helpful as an all-in-one stop for weddings.
PROS Zola offers a popular wedding registry that is totally universal. You can add items to it from anywhere, choose products from their store, AND — here’s the kicker — you can register for cash. Yep, it’s pretty easy! Another pro: free shipping!
CONS It is online-based, so similar to other registries that are online, you cannot see the items in an actual store.
4. Etsy: Create a Registry
Can you register at Etsy? Sure you can! If handmade is your go-to, you’ll be happy to know that Etsy is one of the best places to register for weddings this year.
PROS Support handmade for your big day! Guests can purchase gifts for your wedding from your favorite makers. Pick out wedding decorations or items for the big day itself or choose homewares you’ll love to use together in your place.
CONS It is hard to manage the registry vs. others I have tried. Items can quickly go out of stock, so you’ll need to monitor it more closely (but that’s simply because each shop is an independent seller).
5. Crate and Barrel: Create a Registry
Crate and Barrel is a popular choice for many couples for a wedding registry. Here are the pros of why this is one of the best places to register for wedding 2022.
PROS This registry is great because they offer high-quality products and brands. You’ll also notice many discounts (I believe it is 15% discount on full-price items) that are on your registry up to 3 months after your wedding date (there are a few exclusions on particular brands, FYI). You can get bonus gifts when you choose pick them as one of the places to register, which is helpful and fun — free extras! Your registry remains active for up to 6 months from the wedding date and you can even participate in in-store registry events. I’ve seen some free gifts at those events, too, so keep an eye out for those events in your area.
CONS The products are pricier than other stores, but that’s not necessarily a negative; the products are typically pretty high-quality.
6. Bed Bath & Beyond: Create a Registry
Is there a more iconic place? One of the best places to register for wedding 2022 has to offer is definitely BB&B. I’ve shopped here for years and it is almost always due to a wedding registry!
PROS Easy-to-print registry list in store. The ability to shop for products in stores near you is helpful; you can see the quality first-hand. Easy returns up to 365 days, group gifting (a great way for guests to go in on gifts together that are more expensive), 20% off after the big day on items from your registry, and free shipping.
CONS Prices are typically higher, but there’s almost always a coupon you can find! :)
Where should you not register for a wedding?
Don’t register at a place that you don’t really love to shop or somewhere you can only come up with a few gift suggestions.
Why?
The gift list will look very empty. In addition, many guests like to shop for gift cards to give to you as a gift vs. a wedding present from the list, even if you have built an extensive registry. If you don’t have many things you really love, you’ll have unused gift cards because you won’t want to buy anything.
Instead, you should choose just the best places to register for your wedding based on where YOU enjoy shopping and go with those.
How many different wedding registries should you have?
As a rule of thumb, you should have at least two registries; it is even better to have three wedding registry options. It is recommended to have at least one of the registries one that is in-store, since many guests do like to shop for gifts in person.
You should have no fewer than two registries to give your guests the option.
How do you tell guests WHERE you register?
Once you register for your wedding, how do you tell guests where you did? The best place to put links to your wedding registry are on your wedding website. Next, include the places you’re registered as an enclosure card with your bridal shower invitations.
PRO TIP: Do NOT mention the registry on your wedding invites unless you do this.
Is it tacky to NOT have a wedding registry?
You really do need to register for your wedding. Period. I know, for some couples it feels uncomfortable asking for gifts on a list, but it’s easy for guests to shop from, as they want to give you a gift you’ll enjoy.
Don’t create a wedding registry and only add a few items, either. Put your heart into it! Really choose items together you’ll both enjoy.
Can I register at more than one place?
Yes! You can register at more than one place and it is recommended to do so. Guests love the variety!
