Are you tossing your bouquet at your wedding?
What about your garter?
Maybe you haven’t thought about it yet, and that’s OK. But here’s the thing: incorporating these fun and traditional customs into your reception can be a fun and memorable experience. And you’ll really love this new “twist” on the garter toss: a “you’re next” football.
Great Catch, You’re Next Football
But first… the garter toss at a wedding is one of the most traditional customs that comes to mind, second only to the bouquet toss.
Traditionally speaking, the bouquet toss happens when the bride throws her bouquet into a crowd of single ladies and whomever catches it is next to marry.
Then, the groom tosses the bride’s garter to a crowd of single men, and the person who catches it… wears it around his head and gets super drunk and, well, we’ve all seen the movie. :)
But not really, that’s not always the way it happens. Sometimes, the groom tosses the garter and someone in a crowd of single men catches it and he is said to be the next to marry, too.
So, then, the woman who caught the bouquet and the man who caught the garter traditionally share one dance together.
Now, many brides are OK with tossing the bouquet. Some even have a special tossing bouquet made so they can keep their regular bouquet and toss a different one to the crowd.
But the garter? That’s a whole new ballgame.
Or in this case, a football game.
Instead of tossing the garter, which some brides prefer to keep — or choose not to wear at all — there is now a rugged alternative: the Great Catch You’re Next Football.
And it’s wayyyy more fun.
Instead of flinging her lacy and ribbon-ed garter to a group of guys, tell them to go long instead and toss this football to the crowd.
Instead of then wearing it around his head and drinking way too many Jacks and Cokes (ha!), he’ll instead have a fun football to toss around and keep for after the wedding. This one is personalized with your names and the wedding date. It is a football that reads, “Great catch, you’re next!” It is by Ballstars Store.
And instead of just giving him any old football, this one is customized for the occasion.
Fun idea, yes? I thought so, too. I wish we did this for our wedding!
If you want to see the you’re next football (along with baseballs and soccer balls), head to their store or the Etsy shop for more inspiration.
Happy Planning + Bouquet/Football Tossing!
