One of the easiest ways to personalize your wedding is with fun fact napkins at your reception. Instead of traditional cocktail napkins with your monogram or a motif, you can personalize it further by adding fun facts about you as a couple. In doing so, you’re telling a little more about you and your partner, as well as providing fun icebreakers for your guests to get the conversation rolling.
In this blog post, we’ll talk about fun fact napkins: what they are, how they’re used for weddings, and what to put on yours to make them memorable. You’ll be ready to order yours in time for the reception and give ’em something to talk about! Let’s get started.
What are Fun Facts Napkins?
These are unique napkins with writing on them that provide your guests with a few fun facts about you as a couple or individually. These personalized tales often tell the story of how you met, where you like to travel, what you like to do for fun… that sort of thing.
They are completely custom, right down to the color ink used on the napkin itself. These napkins are typically placed at the bar of your reception for guests to take with their beverage of choice.
How Many Facts Should You Include?
Aim to include a total of four fun facts: here are suggestions on how to do it.
• One fact about one of you,
• One fact about the other,
• Two facts about you as a couple
If the fact is very long, aim for three total and use one of them to talk about you as a couple.
As a tip, the best facts are easy to read and understand if you keep them simple. With fun fact napkins, short and sweet is best!
1. Where did you meet?
Guests love the backstory of how you met or where; include a tidbit about meeting like, “Anna and Derek met over their love for pub trivia” or “They met on the East Coast while attending Duke University.”
2. When did you meet?
If you met as high school sweethearts, that’s a fun tidbit to share. Did you meet at work? Were you introduced to each other through a mutual friend? Did you see your partner across the bar or on a hike? Tell the story of how you met in a few words.
3. Did someone introduce you?
Give props to a friend or family member who helped your “stars align”, so they say. ;) A friend of mine was introduced at a wedding to her now-husband, and she credits her aunt for bringing them together. Your fun facts napkin could read, “Austin and Taylor were introduced by Aunt Mary at a friend’s wedding”.
4. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
People love unusual hobbies or fun things you like to do that may not be very obvious. Things like “secret crossword puzzler” or “amazing Suduko solver, level expert” or “fantastic 300-game bowler” are just a few ideas. Do you never miss a Wordle? Are you a fast sprinter? Do you never miss an episode of The Bachelor? This is where you can indulge your guests: they love to read about things they may not know about you.
5. What bands, movies, or tv shows do you enjoy?
A couple I know love to travel around the country and attend Phish concerts. Something like, “They never miss a Phish concert within a 500-mile radius” is something fun to add or “Avery and Logan have watched The Office 20 times and counting”.
If you’re choosing something about a band or music, include a favorite track. “They never miss a concert for _____ band; “[SONG TITLE]” is a favorite tune.”
6. What is your passion or career? Is there a charity you’re involved in?
Tell guests what you do, or a cause you are devoted to supporting.
7. Include something about your future.
What’s to come? Are you planning to travel to Europe, have a fun honeymoon planned, or just moved into a new place? Tell guests what’s happening in the future!
8. Favorite Food/Drink
What is a favorite snack? A top meal you like to make? Which type of beverage do you enjoy? This makes a great fun fact for the napkin.
9. Do you have any pets?
Guests love to hear about your pets. Include a fun fact about your dog, silly antic about your cat, or unique story of how you became the owner of a wise-crackin’ parrot.
