Their photographer Marisa tells us, “We had perfect weather, a gorgeous venue, and a wonderful couple! Our day started out with Kelsey getting ready. We documented all the beautiful details including her stunningly beautiful wedding dress, to which she had elegant lace and sleeves added. After Kelsey’s mom and twin sister had helped her get dressed, she took a peek outside to see Robbie who had just arrived. She was overwhelmed with joy and shed happy tears upon seeing him! Next was their first look near the side of the historic ranch house (now a library) where there were some more happy tears. As the sun set, the party danced the night away until Kelsey and Robbie were sent off in style, driving Kelsey’s heavily decorated yellow Mustang. Most of the wonderful details and personal touches at this wedding were DIY by the bride and groom and their family and friends. They filled the wedding with many sweet personal touches.”

What was your something old, new, borrowed, and blue? She told us, “New: My wedding dress. Although my mother would have liked me to wear hers, it would never have fit me. But mine did end up resembling her dress! Something old & borrowed: my mom’s pearl jewelry. Something blue: I had my seamstress add a blue button to the back of my dress! I also had a sixpence in my shoe given to me by a friend of my grandmother.”

“What is your favorite wedding day memory? Seeing Robbie from my bridal room arrive at the venue all dressed up and ready to go when I was all dressed up ready to go. That made it all finally seem real for some reason.”

“Ceremony & Reception Decor: All of this was pretty much DIY stuff. We bought decorations from Michaels like tulle and flowers, then decorated away. The gazebo had small heart doilies hanging from it that were from my great grandmother’s craft collections.”

“When the bride and groom entered their reception, they went straight into their first dance. Next we all enjoyed a delicious barbeque dinner, followed by sweet toasts by the bridal party, the father-daughter and mother-son dances, the cake cutting and the bouquet/garter tosses.”

Did you DIY anything for your wedding? If so, what? She told us, “We did a bunch of DIY stuff. Our invitations were printed at home, we bought and painted all the bird houses and various bird decorations around the venue, as well as put together and arranged the decorations for the gazebo that we stood under. All the flowers were arranged by the flower girl’s mom.”

“Each guest table at the reception had a wooden bird perching in the flower centerpiece, which was also an item from my great grandmother. We bought a bunch of small bird houses and painted them as a part of the love birds theme.”

Dennis tells us, “I had a front row seat when Seth first saw Marnina in her wedding dress, and was watching her face through my zoom lens as she looked at her husband to be. The joy and depth of emotion in their faces was so intense, if they had been actors I would have thought they were overdoing it. But this was the real thing, and for a photographer it was a blast to photograph, and for a human being… well, gives you faith in humanity!”

beth-tfiloh-baltimore-wedding-0015

“The ceremony and reception were held at the Beth Tfiloh Congregation near Baltimore. My day started out calmly with some getting ready photos, photographing some details and overalls of the scene and the beautiful sanctuary… and then things began to happen. There was a kabbalat panim where people greet and pray with the bride, and then the men’s and women’s tisch. I particularly enjoyed the bedeken, where Karen (my wife and second shooter) and I worked in unison to capture the amazing moments happening all around us.”

“After the bedeken, the wedding just seemed to take off like a rocket ship, a non-stop whirl of intense emotion and activity that continued for hours. Towards the end of the reception things finally calmed down and we collapsed in a heap, happy and tired, precious gigabytes of family memories safely zipped up in our bags.”

Maryland Handmade Wedding: Lina + Matthew

Lina and Matthew’s Maryland handmade wedding will inspire your planning! This incredible couple’s wedding was this past fall in Baltimore, Maryland. Their wedding has some beautiful handmade touches that you’re sure to enjoy. To create the perfect event, Lina and Matthew sought the creative planning talents of Esme Krahn from BodaMaestra. Esme tells more about how this couple met, their proposal, and the styling ideas.

Esme tells us, “Like a growing number of couples in the digital age, Lina and Matthew ‘met’ for the first time via Skype. Incredibly, they were separated by nearly 2,500 miles, with Lina living in Bogota, Colombia and Matthew in Baltimore, MD. Their initial connection was prompted by Matthew’s sister-in-law, Sara, who – as the constantly shrinking globe would have it – also happened to be Lina’s friend from college! Although both Lina and Matthew were nervous about getting to know each other this way, their nightly Skype sessions soon became the most exciting part of the day.”

“I fell for her instantly,” Matthew recalls. “We would spend hours talking about life and our stories. We quickly realized that we had so many things in common and we both had this strange feeling that we had known each other for a long time. After about a week of talking with Lina, I decided that I needed to buy an airplane ticket to Bogotá. I very politely asked if that was OK. The smile Lina gave me was all the answer I needed. It would be five long weeks until we would meet in person.”

“It seemed like a dream to me,” says Lina. “I didn’t think that a man like him would be real.”

When they saw each other at the airport for the first time in person, Lina couldn’t believe Matthew was finally there. As for Matthew, any sense of anxiety or nervousness that he had going in disappeared the moment he laid eyes on her.

On August 2, 2014, Matthew was ready to ask Lina to marry him. It happened at Lina’s parents’ home, during a gathering where friends and family were present. At dinner, while everyone was visiting, Matthew held Lina’s hand and told her that she made him the happiest man in the world. He then went down on one knee and, in front of the group, asked Lina: “Will you marry me?” Lina gave him a resounding yes!

With only two months to plan the wedding, Lina found Esme of BodaMaestra through her videographer, Clif Matheson. Lina arrived to Baltimore just three weeks before the big day. By then, the planning and styling of the wedding was done (thank you, Pinterest!). Lina and Matthew had several online meetings with Esme in order to discuss and refine all the important details, including the flow of the ceremony, wedding flowers, cake design, Lina’s wedding dress, and Matthew’s attire.

“Lina and Matthew wanted an intimate fall wedding with lots of bright colors mixed with a sense of romanticism and elegance,” said Esme, who happens to specialize in planning weddings for multicultural and Latino couples. “Although Lina is fully bilingual, she found it refreshing and comforting that we did all the planning in Spanish. Since the wedding took place in Baltimore, I also provided Lina with wedding etiquette advice that is not necessarily a part of Colombia’s customs.”

Marisa tells us, “We love these two! Kelly and Joshua met at Starbucks over 3 years ago after noticing each other several times and finally working up the courage to say hello. :) They got got engaged at sunset on the beautiful sands of Laguna Beach in November 2012. They have so much fun together and we love spending time talking with them; in fact, at our first meeting we spent almost three hours talking, coincidentally enough, at a Starbucks!”

“For their engagement session we went to the beautiful Heritage Park in Santa Fe Springs which features a historic greenhouse, windmill and orange grove. It is an absolutely gorgeous location! When we were talking about what kind of feel they wanted for their engagement session, Kelly inspired me to create a custom flower crown, just for our session! She was our first client to wear one and we are so excited to be providing them as a prop option to our brides.”

Gold and Black Wedding: Coto de Caza

Alice and Ian met in law school. Alice tells us, “We met in law school over 5 years ago. It was at 7am in the same class, all year long. After our first year, we became close friends bonding over school misery and eating our way around Los Angeles.” When we asked about the proposal, the groom chimed in. Ian tells us, “She was flying back from Denver that day, and I had about 12 hours to plan because I knew it had to happen that day. I picked her up from the airport & dropped her off at her house. She was heading to my place after, so I raced to my home and changed into a suit. I had invited her closest friends to set up candles and roses on the floor of my living room. When she came in, she almost burned her bags as she dropped them too close to the candles. She may or may not have run away to hide in the hallway a couple times in embarrassment when she realized we weren’t the only two people there. The rest is a blur, but it doesn’t matter because she said yes!” What a sweet story! Congrats to the happy couple!

Really just laughing until we cried, crying until we laughed at practically each moment of the wedding (i.e. vows, speeches, surprise videos, and dancing).”
