I am obsessed with tiered cake stands. It all started when I was shopping for a friend’s bridal shower gift at Bed Bath & Beyond. I spotted the most beautiful tiered stand which was black and white with a pretty pattern and a silver center handle. It was the most delicate glass tiered stand I had ever seen and I began to ration about what I could possibly use it for… use it for? EVERYTHING. Cookies. Cakes. Cupcakes. Pies. Macarons. Tarts. (Suddenly, I’m a short order chef? Crazy things happen when you’re about to make a purchase, I tell you.) Earrings. Jewelry. Fancy things. I don’t know… but I wanted it. I didn’t buy it because I was on a mission for the bridal shower gift, but later that evening I perused Etsy for hours. I found all kinds of tiered stands – vintage tiered stands made from tea cups to modern cake stands like the one I spotted at the store. If only I had known of my love for tiered stands – and how to make them – while planning my own wedding! Well, it is my pleasure to share with you today one of the cutest DIY tiered stand tutorials I have ever seen, perfect for your wedding day and beyond in your love nest. One bummer alert, though: these are not food or dishwasher safe. Instead, display things like flowers, jewelry, non-food favors, etc. And, promise us one thing – if you do make this project, send us the pictures – we’d love to see them!
So… who knew you could take a quick trip to the dollar store (no joke!) and pick up a few of these…
and turn them into these pretties?
It’s true. Best of all, you can paint them any color you wish. We spotted this incredible diy tiered stands tutorial at Joy’s Hope where you can get the full diy scoop. I’m definitely making one of these over the weekend – I can’t wait to it pretty it up in baby blues to hold my jewelry. Will you be making one?

So pretty! I can’t wait to try this. What kind of paint would I use? Are certain paints not good with food?
Hi Linda!
Unfortunately, there is no food safe paint we could find; we don’t recommend serving food directly on these. You would want to use it as a jewelry display or, if you’re serving food, you need to only use something like muffins or cupcakes with liners. They’re pretty, aren’t they?! I looked and looked for food safe paint but couldn’t find anything I felt comfortable enough recommending 100%.
Thanks for stopping by!
Emma
what type of glue do you use to glue candle stick to plate?
Hi Mandy! Use a glue gun and hot glue.
Great question, Rachel! No, I would not put food on it because of the paint. Cupcakes with liners is fine, as long as you have an additional barrier underneath (doily papers work great). Thanks for stopping by!
Love these! I’m linking them on my Friday dance! So bright and beautiful!
So cute & practical! I love the idea of using this as a jewelry holder!
I now have yet another creative side project on my to-do list. Love this!
yay! i did make these last summer for my birthday brunch.
a word of warning: even with super glue they do come apart easily, so make sure you have them really stabilized before you stack desserts on!
How fun are these!? I’m seriously thinking I should make some funky colored ones for my son’s upcoming 1st birthday party! cupcake holder perhaps? :)
I made this with glass candle holders, glass plates, both from the dollar store and epoxy glue. I can use them for food items as needed. I stack them as needed but try not to stack more than two or three because they are glass and therefore, breakable. They were super easy to make.
They are to cute!!! I will have to give it a try for home parties.
Thanks for sharing.
