What Kind of Boutonniere to Pick
Let’s begin with finds for your nautical or beach themed wedding.
Nautical / Beach
For a nautical wedding, what kind of boutonniere to pick depends on what colors you’ve selected. If you’re opting for a traditional navy blue and white color palette, a striped boutonniere, like this one, is ideal.
If you’re not sure on color, you can opt for something with a nautical twist: this knotted boutonniere features a figure 8 knot made from jute twine.
Or, a compass boutonniere is a fun alternative to a traditional boutonniere and can be easily attached to his lapel.
If your wedding is specifically beach themed, a starfish boutonniere like this one fits perfectly.
Bohemian
For a bohemian wedding, it’s all about the whimsical and the free-spirited feel. As such, feathers tie in perfectly with your boutonniere choice. This is one of our favorites:
Another option is a fun, whimsical fabric boutonniere… like these!
Modern
For a modern wedding, opt for something minimalist. For instance, here is a flower boutonniere (made of clay):
Succulents are always a nice boutonniere option, too. If you’re planning a more elegant modern wedding, skip the burlap and opt for one with a clean, simple look, like this:
And remember, for a modern wedding his boutonniere doesn’t have to resemble a traditional boutonniere at all. For instance, check out this button boutonniere we found:
Another example of a modern boutonniere is a lapel pin. We spotted these wood ones here, which is fitting for a modern wedding with a rustic, outdoorsy feel.
And finally, a very minimal dried flower, like this boutonniere made from blue echinops, gives you yet another option:
How to Pick a Boutonniere – Vintage
For a vintage wedding, pick a boutonniere with nostalgic details. One of my favorites: a bountonniere handmade from a page from a vintage book.
This one, too, with a hint of lace:
And this cameo ‘button’ boutonniere is made from vintage finds:
Rustic
When deciding what kind of boutonniere to pick for a rustic wedding, burlap is usually a bride’s number one choice. Add birch flowers and you have a stunning combination, like this:
We talked about succulents as a modern boutonniere option, but succulents can work for rustic weddings, too. Opt for one that has a burlap or jute-wrapped stem for a little more rustic flair.
This next option is a rose made of dried corn leaf, cream pip berries, green paper leaves, and more, all wrapped up in natural twine. It’s perfect for your rustic groom’s lapel.
A rolled flower pin with a hint of linen and burlap is an elegant choice — and it lasts forever.
We’re also loving this wheat option:
For a western wedding, this pair of cowboy boots and burlap ‘leaf’ are a complementing touch:
This pine cone is perfect for a winter wedding, especially one with a rustic theme:
Offbeat
For an offbeat wedding, choose something that’s anything but ordinary. For instance, a pinwheel:
… or this, for the rock star…
… or this soda cap option…
… or even this vintage toy car boutonniere…
And, this clock face steampunk-inspired bout…
The possibilities are endless for this one.
Traditional
A traditional wedding deserves a boutonniere that exudes classic, romantic charm. This ranunculus boutonniere is one such option:
A stunning white sola rose with a hint of dried flowers and veil netting, ties in beautifully to a classic wedding.
Or borrow complementing shades from your palette, like this colorful arrangement:

What unique boutonnieres! I particularly love the nautical look with the contrast of two different types of rope! :)
