Hanging Mason Jar Vases: What Size to Use

Are you looking for chic ceremony decor? Just use hanging mason jar vases! But first… you have to admit that mason jars have pretty much taken over the wedding world. We’ve seen our beloved pint-sized jars used as drinking glasses, projects and insanely creative mason jar ideas, and we’ve even seen a plastic version of mason jars for non-glass venues. That’s how much they’re loved. Today we’re answering an Ask Emmaline question from Marie, who asks, “I’m hanging mason jar vases for my ceremony aisle. What size should I use?” Read on to find out…

Hanging Mason Jar Vases

The right size for hanging mason jar vases is 16 oz (1 pint). This is the perfect size mason jar because your flowers and the amount of water you will need won’t make these jars too heavy to hang. We recommend hanging them from the back of each chair along the aisle (use a heavy wire and pliers around the base to create a loop; secure tightly and hang from a chair back).< Note: if you are making mason jar hanging vases, you'll want to make sure you use these. It will keep your flowers looking perfect all day long./p>

If you prefer, you can display your chic mason jar hanging vases from shepherd’s hooks along the aisle way. Want to make your own? Here’s an easy tutorial on how to make hanging mason jar flower vases.

Tassel Garland: What It Is + Where to Find It

What’s the hottest new wedding trend in decor? Tassel garland! And where can you find it? Ellenor Shop! We spotted these festive tassel garland strands there and we love what we found. These particular tassel garlands are made with lightweight plastic (not than tissue paper), which means it’s less fragile than tissue, more durable for multiple uses/parties, and waterproof. We spotted amazing combinations: hot pink + gold. Black tie tassels. Plum tassel garland with sparkly accents. Hang ’em up as a photo booth backdrop, decorate your cake table, draw attention to your sweetheart table, or use as decoration anywhere you see fit. Also makes a lovely accent for your bridal shower or bachelorette party. Read on to see our favorites…

Hanging Spheres: The Hottest New Decor Trend

Move over, poms – there’s a hot new decor trend in town! I’ve seen hanging spheres before (also called hanging string balls, but ‘spheres’ has a nice ring to it, no?) but I’ve never seen anything quite like these from The Find Sac. A & I have been discussing how we plan to update our backyard this summer. We recently hung these, I excitedly put our patio set and hot red umbrella out for the season, and I jokingly asked him 99 questions about pergolas yesterday. (I secretly just want something chic onto which I can display lanterns, poms, hanging spheres, and these for entertaining.) Anyways, all this outdoor planning has got me thinking about new trends for outdoor weddings. Paper poms and paper lanterns have been popular for years and have undoubtedly opened the door for fresh ideas yet to come to fruition. I’ll never tire of the aforementioned party decor, but I’m ready for something new. You, too? Read on for four reasons why they’re the hottest new thing in town for weddings, showers, and outdoor entertaining this summer…

Hanging Spheres

Hanging spheres are balls of string which are formed into shape by – you guessed it! – balloons. The balloons are removed after the spheres are formed and the result is a see-through sphere. Our friend + Featured Artisan, Kathleen of The Find Sac, has perfected the art of hanging spheres and she offers them in three sizes: small (2 oz), medium (4 oz), and large (8 oz). These spheres can be used as centerpieces (placed in baskets or vases), or suspended from tree branches for an outdoor soiree. Hanging spheres are typically made in the color white, but they’re also available in other colors, too.

The Find Sac is a Featured Artisan in The Marketplace. Find out more about her work here.

How to Make Hanging Mason Jar Lanterns

To make hanging mason jar lanterns, you’ll need the following:

mason jars (preferably with 2.25″ opening) which can be bought at a local grocery store or here

mason jar lantern kits (by midwest finds) – 3 sets for $10

long burning votive candles OR LED votives

– vase filler: consider sand, water beads, colorful ice rock gems, seashells, or clear ice gems

1. Secure wire lantern kit + chain to top of jar
2. Fill 1/3 of jar with vase filler of your choice
3. Place candle on top of vase filler
4. Hang lantern at wedding reception or line pathways to light up the night

EB TIP: Make extra (non-hanging) jars as lanterns and add tags to give away as wedding favors. Guests will love ’em!

Alternate: Day to Night Decor

Fill with water + add flowers of your choice during the day; at night, add a floating candle to the water.

Happy Planning!

A Bright Idea: Re-Purposed Light Bulb Decor

This re-purposed light bulb decor spotted at Twigs for Pearls, is constructed with clear globe light bulbs filled with artificial flower blooms. These can be suspended with twisted hooks attached to fishing line, and voila – chic and clever.

We love the idea of using as a backdrop for photos (t’ana photography captured the couple in the reflection of the bulbs – amazing), for outdoor reception decor (hang from large tree branches to float freely), or for a back wall decoration (imagine placing in front of a vintage tapestry inside an autumnal, rustic barn reception – now that’s swoon-worthy).
