Congratulations! You found the perfect wedding dress, but you feel like it’s missing just a little something. What could it be? Sleeves? A bolero? The perfect wedding shoes? Perhaps what you’re missing is a belt or a wedding dress sash, one accessory that can bring your entire look together.
How to Add a Belt to Your Wedding Dress
If you’re wondering how to add a belt to a wedding dress, it’s actually quite easy. Most wedding dress belts are made in a one-size-fits-all style that tie around your waist in the back, usually in a bow or knot. Unlike regular belts, a bridal belt is made with ribbon as the main material so it’s easy to add to a wedding dress of any style.
When adding your wedding belt or sash, tie it just around your waist and make sure it’s snug, but not too tight. You don’t want it to fall off during the ceremony, but you also don’t want it pulling the fabric of your gown too much where it takes away the natural flow of your dress.
How to Choose a Bridal Belt
The hard part isn’t adding the belt to your dress, it’s deciding which dress belt or sash is right for you. When you’re trying to choose a bridal belt, simply look for one that you like! And make sure it coordinates or complements your gown in terms of color and embellishments, as well as matches the theme or formality of your wedding.
We’ve hand-picked a few of the best bridal dress sashes to help you choose. Which wedding belt would you add to your dress?
Bridal Belt / Sash for Your Wedding Dress
First, let’s talk about what a bridal dress sash or belt can do for your bridal gown.
1. A bridal belt can accentuate your waistline.
If you feel like your wedding dress needs some structure, a bridal belt is a great way to emphasize your waist.
2. A wedding dress sash can add sparkle, color, or texture.
When the material or style is a bit plain or too simple, adding a belt to a wedding dress can really make it feel custom-made and give it that “something extra” for which you’ve been looking.

3. Personalize your look with a wedding belt.
Brides like to add their own accessories to their gown; from boleros or sleeves for cooler weather to custom dress labels inside for “Something Blue”, your wedding dress is all about customization. Adding a belt to a wedding dress is probably the easiest and one of the best ways to add your own personal touch without breaking the bank.
