It’s time for another Ask Emmaline question! We received this question from bride-to-be, Lana, who asks, “Dear Emmaline, I’m planning my wedding and my parents have been so helpful, especially my mom. She has been helping with every DIY detail, even taking some of the bigger projects (my centerpieces) to eliminate my stress. I want to thank my parents for all they’ve done for our wedding; any advice?” Fantastic question! You can never thank your parents enough for all of the wonderful things they’ve done for you, and your wedding is no exception. Whether they are contributing their time, money, support, or they’re just being totally awesome per usual, it’s important to thank your parents at your wedding.
Ways to Thank Parents at Your Wedding
1. Present Them with a Heartfelt Art Print
Give them a personalized gift at the wedding, like this custom thank you photo frame by BoutiqueButterLu.
It will be a memorable gift they’ll display at home and cherish for years to come.
This custom portrait by CharmingBlush is another gift idea they’ll love. How sweet is this? It is a recreation of a favorite photo of your parents.
2. Include a Note in the Ceremony Program
If you’re having a ceremony program, include a note inside it thanking your parents for their love and support.
3. Recreate One of Their Wedding Photos
Flip through their wedding photos and ask them about their day. Find a photo that includes your parents and your grandparents from their wedding; have it recreated at your own wedding.
Or include it in a gift, like this photo that includes your favorite wedding day photo and a picture from theirs! By RiverRootsCreative.
4. Include a Thank You in your Menu
Include a note in your menu at your reception showing your gratitude.
5. Handwritten Thanks
Present your parents with a card or letter as a thank you. For a card, write a few lines inside with specifics of why you’d like to say thanks at your wedding. If you’d like to include a longer letter, consider something along the lines of “remember when” where you write things you’re thankful for, whether before or during the wedding planning process.
6. Thank You Gifts
Present your parents with gifts of thanks. A few examples include jewelry…
… a handwritten box…
… these mugs…
… or a handkerchief.
7. Enjoy the Day
And, last but not least, enjoy your wedding day. Your parents want you to be happy and savor every moment of your wedding day. You (and presumably they) have put lots of time and energy into this day, so make sure you show your appreciation by enjoying it. Practice these wedding acts of kindness and be gracious to all who help you make your day wonderful. Oh, and it goes without saying: never be a bridezilla. It doesn’t look good on anyone. And, be sure to say thank you during the planning process.
Happy Planning!
