The Interview
Hi Becks! When did your bespoke wedding stationery business begin? Where are you located?
“Inkshed Design Studio (aka Paper Buttercup) began in 2013! I’m based in Dorset, England.”
How did you begin your wedding stationery business?
“I’ve always been passionate about design, illustration and hand-craftsmanship – and I find the creative possibilities that paper, as my main expressive medium holds, ever intriguing and inspiring.”
“After completing a BA (hons) Illustration degree I gained an amazing solid foundation for my design career within the Craft & Gift Industry. It opened the door to an exciting world of creativity surrounded by colour, fascinating products and tools (it was pretty much Christmas all year round!). I was designing, originating and creating paper-craft products and gorgeous ‘do-it-yourself’ kits that enabled crafters to have the tools they needed to hand to create stunning results for themselves. As the role grew more into a managerial position I craved for the hands-on creativity and the storytelling involved with design, and inkshed design studio was born.”
“The essence of our Paper Buttercup Wedding Stationery captures the sheer enjoyment and satisfaction of creating something beautiful and personal – giving you the opportunity to create a unique experience by handcrafting your very own stationery. I wrote more about the benefits of handmade here.”
Do you want to give a shout-out to team members, and how do they help you?
“Absoltuely! To my amazing fiancé and family – who are always on hand to support for wedding fairs and showcases, critique and test out new products and techniques. Thank you so much! (And not forgetting our two rescue cats, Bracken & Bramble, who add extra smiles to each day. Their inquisitive nature shares my love of paper (and twine) – any celebration and the discarded wrapping paper and trims bring them great joy!)”
Tell us more about your bespoke wedding stationery products.
“Paper Buttercup is a beautiful design collection for customised or bespoke stationery and paper accessories to help you create your perfect handmade wedding…
(and a unique party!) Its fresh approach allows you to handpick the details to create your dream stationery for your day. After all, your wedding day is all about the two of you – capturing your personal tastes, personality and your story.”
“Your stationery collection arrives on a flat printed sheet (or as a printable digital file for the ultimate ‘do-it-yourself’ style), with your stationery collection items beautifully laid out, OR your stationery handcrafted and finished for you, ready to send out.”
“The Paper Buttercup Design Collections include a complete co-ordinated look for your day:
– save the date OR details of your day*
– wedding invitation
– RSVP card
– order of service cover OR menu*
– place name tags
– gift tags
– thank you card
(*optional stationery items OR a bespoke layout can be created just for you)
“Each beautiful design is tailored to your theme and colour scheme, giving you a customised design and style handpicked by you.”
There are lots of options we can discuss to create and select your designer wedding stationery within your budget, especially if you would love to hand finish your stationery. (Our little secret: ‘Crafted by you’ is the most budget friendly option, not only do you accomplish so much more within your budget; you’ll have your complete, co-ordinated designer stationery collection for your day (that you can also proudly say you handmade) – it will look worth so much more than its weight in gold, PLUS, you’ll create such a personal, unique and fun experience shared with loved ones).”
What inspires you most for your designs?
“I am most inspired by the seasons – each season is so different and conjures up its own unique feel and associated memories. The changing of the seasons is always enchanting and brings fresh inspiration.”
What is your best-selling product right now?
“Our bespoke wedding stationery collection! Creating a design collection that is completely one-of-a-kind for your day. Like the Design Collection, it provides couples with a complete co-ordinated handpicked style and feel for your day.”
What kinds of materials do you work with?
“I use paper… initially the designs start out with a sketchbook and pencil, then I recreate the designs digitally before laying out the stationery design collection. On design approval the artwork is carefully prepared for print and sent off to the digital print press to be printed on to a gorgeous assortment of paper stock. Teamed with co-ordinating paper envelopes and optional finishing touches (beautiful twine, ribbon, sparkling gems or pearls) to create a paper package of loveliness!”
What is your favorite part about creating bespoke wedding stationery for couples?
“It’s such an honour and privilege to be part of the couple’s special day, bringing their ideas to life and sharing their story through their wedding stationery – and of course their delight on seeing their stationery for the first time!”
Your favorite social media network is…
“Facebook!”
Do you have new products coming out soon to tell us about?
“Yes! Papercuts – bespoke story frame artwork to capture those precious moments in time; celebrate your engagement, your wedding, anniversary or new arrival and more – a unique way to tell someone how much they are loved! And also, gorgeous paper cake toppers!”
And last but not least, what is your best wedding advice — in 10 words or less?
“Keep the two of you in the centre of planning.”
That is great advice! Thanks for chatting with us and telling us more about your bespoke wedding stationery!
