Now that you’ve seen some examples, does a purse fit with your needed? Does a bride need a clutch? Let’s discuss it in further detail.
Does The Bride Need a Purse?
This bridal question came to us in our inbox from Lisa, who writes:
“Hi Emmaline, does the bride need a purse? I’m wondering what to use to carry my stuff around on the day of the wedding or if I can just store it in a room or give it to my Maid of Honor to hold. I have pockets on my dress but they don’t hold much. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!”
Hi Lisa! Great question. The answer to the question of whether the bride needs a purse varies from bride-to-bride. You may need to carry a clutch or bag if your venue doesn’t have a room to securely store your items or if you want to have a few items readily available.
Here are three suitable options:
• CARRY A BAG: Do you want things close-at-hand? Do you like the look of a purse? Then I highly recommend a bridal bag!
• STORE IT IN YOUR SUITE: Do you like purses, but don’t really want to carry anything around? Get one of the large tote bags instead and use it to stow essentials in your wedding suite.
• SKIP A PURSE: Not a purse kinda gal? Place a few things in your pockets and/or give everything else to your MOH or your mom.
Do what works best for you!
I liked having my day-of essentials in my bridal clutch. However, that comes from personal experience. I chose to carry a clutch bag (my mother’s wedding purse, my Something Borrowed!) It was the perfect size: it fit my lipstick, a compact mirror, money, id, phone, handkerchief, and makeup remover wipes. And it wasn’t a hassle having to carry it around, as I kept it at the head table and only grabbed items on an as-needed basis.
So, even if you have a purse, you don’t need to carry it around with you all day long.

If you’re carrying a bag, you may be wondering: what size should it be? Let’s discuss it.
What Size Wedding Bag Do You Need?
A wedding purse or bag needn’t be very large. It should accentuate your look, not overwhelm it, and needs to only fit a few things inside it.
Avoid carrying a tote bag or anything large at the actual wedding. Those big duffels and totes are best kept in your bridal suite.
A simple wristlet, clutch, handbag, or shoulder bag should do, with a snap, button, or zipper closure for safekeeping.
What Style to Choose: Bag Accents + Purse Colors
For a classic look, select a color that complements your bridal gown with hints of lace embroidery, pearls, rhinestones, or an elegant satin finish.
If your bridal gown is white, choose a white purse. Ivory? Choose an ivory bag. Don’t carry a white bag with an ivory gown, or it will won’t photograph as well and give a yellowish appearance.
In addition, you do NOT need to have a wedding purse in classic white, ivory, champagne, etc. bag if you don’t want to. If you prefer a bright color, fun feathered design, decorative beading, or something modern, go for it. You should emphasize your individual style. :)
As an example, here’s a fun and colorful bag by PrettyRobesShop with many color combinations available here.
A bright or bold blue is a popular trend, as it ties nicely into your “Something Blue” for the wedding day.
