Hi, loves! Today we’re talking about finding your wedding dress, and not just any wedding dress. We want you to find the most flattering wedding dress that portrays the most genuine version of yourself on your wedding day — even if you are on a budget! Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? You just have to know where to start! We have help from wedding dress experts David’s Bridal, a company which was built on the idea that every woman deserves to have the wedding dress of her dreams regardless of her style preference, shape, size, or budget. We love that. We’ll share dress advice, a fun style quiz, silhouette guide, and wedding dress trends for 2017 to keep you looking stylish. We hope this helps you on the quest for the dress. Now, on to the list!
Finding Your Wedding Dress
1. Start early.
The tip to make finding your wedding dress less stressful? Start early! This way, you have more time to browse different necklines, lengths, styles, and more. Some brides turn to Pinterest, which is helpful as a visual gallery (and saving favorite dresses to your boards by repinning them). But that might take lots of time and you still may not know the difference between an A-line dress or a sheath dress. We recommend this wedding dress quiz first. It just takes a few minutes to pinpoint your perfect wedding dress style.
Another helpful guide is this handy wedding style guide to help you identify different silhouettes. Once you decide on style (or at least have an idea of what you may like to wear), you’re ready to move on to tip #2.
2. Try it on!
Grab your mom, your bridesmaids, or fly solo to the bridal shop and start trying on dresses! You will *never* know how a dress will look on you unless you try it on. A dress on a hanger is world apart from a dress worn on your body. But before you go, you need to make an appointment; many bridal shops require an appointment to try on dresses. It’s easy to book an appointment online at David’s Bridal with your local retailer (there are over 300 retail stores across the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and UK!). It makes sense, too: once you book an appointment, they’ll set you up with one of their knowledgeable stylists and expert seamstresses to work with you from day one.
To your appointment, be sure to ring along hosiery (strapless or multi-wear bras are great for trying on tricky necklines). You’ll also want to bring a pair of heels that will be close to the height of the shoes you’re planning to wear. These two things give you a better interpretation of the dress on your actual wedding day with proper undergarments and shoes (to show how your dress will move and flow as you walk). Also, don’t forget your cell phone or camera! Have your mom or maid of honor snap photos of you in various dresses to help you decide. P.S. If you forget something, David’s Bridal also offers everything to complete your head-to-toe look from shoes to handbags.
One last note about trying on dresses: try on a few different silhouettes, even if the dress isn’t necessarily a style you would wear. The perfect dress could get overlooked because it’s not a style you even considered; that’s what happened to me and my “dress on a whim” ended up being The One! So, it’s totally possible.
3. Get the perfect fit.
When you try on wedding dress samples, you’ll find sizing is all over the place; sometimes you’ll be squeezing into a dress that’s too small, while you’ll be practically swimming in another dress two sizes too big. A wedding dress is custom-made to suit YOUR body. It is made just for YOUR shape. That’s why David’s Bridal is a great resource for finding your wedding dress because they connect you with one of their seamstresses who works one-on-one with you to get a perfect fit. After measurements are taken, your dress is created and shipped to their store. You are then scheduled for fittings so the seamstress can get a perfect fit.

My sister is getting ready to get married, and I think that making sure she gets the right wedding dress is a huge deal to her. I’m glad that you talked about how important it is to get the right fit to your specific body for wedding dresses, and that you don’t want to be swimming in your dress. I’m going to have to share your article with my sister and see if it can help her out with her shopping and debating between wedding dresses! Thanks!
These were very helpful tips and I liked how you also included the trends to look out for in the spring 2017 when shopping for your wedding dress!
