“Hi Emmaline! What is a mermaid wedding dress? Is a fishtail wedding dress the same thing? What’s the difference between a mermaid style dress and a traditional gown?”
Hi Jessy! Wonderful question and thanks for writing. I love a mermaid/fishtail wedding dress and am quite familiar with its style. Here’s some additional info on what a mermaid dress is, along with some inspiration.
What Is A Mermaid / Fishtail Wedding Dress?
Most commonly referred to as a mermaid or fishtail wedding dress, this style is characterized by its fitted style and hugs your body close.
Most notably, a fishtail wedding dress doesn’t flare out at the waist like a ball gown or A-line wedding dress does. Rather, a mermaid wedding dress flares at or below the knee which creates a “fishtail” style. Some brides choose a long train with a fishtail gown, while others opt for a short train. That’s up to you! Both look elegant with this silhouette.
