It’s time for a new Ask Emmaline question! This question comes to us from Michelle who asks,
Hi Emmaline! I have a beautiful wedding dress but I’ve seen some sashes and I’m thinking of adding one to my dress. What kind am I supposed to (or not supposed to) pick? Please help!

Should I Add Sash to Wedding Dress?
Great question, Michelle! When it comes to picking out a dress sash, here’s a rule of thumb to follow: a sash should add to your look — not distract from it. So, if your dress already has embellishment (crystals, rhinestones, delicate beading, pearls, etc.) across the bust or neckline, for instance, a sash might distract from it, and you might be better off skipping one.
On the other hand, if your dress is simpler and you want to add a bit of bling or a pop of color, a sash is certainly one beautiful and easy way to do it. In this case, we say go for it! As with all wedding decisions, trust your gut. If you love it, go for it.
Now that you know a little more about whether you should add a sash to your dress, we’re sharing some handpicked sashes from a bridal sash expert, SparkleSMBridal. You’ll find a ton of bling here, along with some gorgeous pops of color (and a little “something blue” to cross something else off of your list). Enjoy!

My dress is lace but has no bling. I picked a sash that goes with our rustic themed wedding. It has leaves and it just makes my dress. I actually had picked the sash while trying on a different dress, the dress was a BIG NO but the sash was an instant YES.
That’s great, Kristina! Sometimes the sash is “The One” before the dress! :) Thanks for sharing, your dress sounds gorgeous!
