It’s easy to fall in love with trends set by fashion industry pros, but what do real brides really want to wear? What do YOU dream of wearing on your wedding day? In today’s post, we’re partnering with Maggie Sottero Designs to show you exactly which 2020 wedding dress trends are being set by actual brides like you, including fan-favorites like illusion tulle, ruffles, open backs, and statement-making sleeves.
Let’s find the dress of your dreams!
Wedding Dress Trends 2020
Ready to see what’s trending this year? Let’s kick off the list with one of our favorites: illusion tulle!
2020 Wedding Dress Trends #1: Barely There
One of the biggest 2020 wedding dress trends right now is the nearly-naked, illusion tulle gown.
If you want the barely-there look to show off your silhouette (and still be covered, of course!) then this is the style for you.

I noticed this gown — named “Abbie” — has embroidered lace motifs and a cool crosshatching-over-tulle design, as well as my favorite — a fit-and-flare style! You can see what I mean here and, in case you’re wondering what kind of undergarments work best with this gown, you’re in luck: they’ve already taken the guesswork out of shapewear because it’s built right into this gown! (Yay!)

2020 Wedding Dress Trends #2: Sequins + Sparkly Accents
For brides who love to walk down the aisle in shimmering sequins or sparkling accents, a princess dress that dazzles is the trend to follow! Sparkly wedding gowns are a perfect balance of drama and glamour; you can’t go wrong with one of these gowns.

One of my favorite bridal gowns within this trend is Allen by Sottero and Midgley. It has just the right blend of vintage meets glamour. The crystals and sparkles will shimmer down the aisle and the princess style tulle gown will have you dancing the night away! See it here.

2020 Wedding Dress Trends #3: Backless
How low can you go? The backless wedding dress will turn heads and sweep you off your feet; this style adds a dramatic look to the back of your gown and puts emphasis on low buttons, sheer lace, or a completely blank canvas which is perfect for adding another popular fashion statement — back necklaces!

2020 Wedding Dress Trends #4: Old Hollywood Glamour
Ooh-la-la — this trend is for the romantics at heart! This year, old-Hollywood glamour is anything but limited to vintage looks! For inspiration, check out the Kimora gown, a vintage ball gown can have a contemporary undertone thanks to deep scoop neckline and strapless style.
Here’s how real brides rocked the Old Hollywood look down the aisle!

2020 Wedding Dress Trends #5: Ruffled Elegance
For an ultra-feminine look, you’ll be best suited with ruffles, another big trend we’re seeing for 2020 wedding dresses.
These brides pulled off the ruffled look beautifully! Take a look:

One of my favorites is this mermaid style gown named “Patsy”: it features a strapless neckline, an asymmetrical bodice, and layers of delightful flared-out ruffles. See it here.

2020 Wedding Dress Trends #6: Statement Sleeves
Sleeves are BACK! And not just any sleeves… but bold, statement-making sleeves that will turn heads! Whether you choose puffy sleeves or off-the-shoulder sleeves, this is one detail you’ll see outfitted on brides this year.

2020 Wedding Dress Trends #7: Victorian Inspired
Victorian lace is a trend brides love because it’s modest, so you’re completely covered; yet, there’s something ultra-sultry and sexy about the way the silhouette hugs your body.
