Are you planning a beach wedding and wondering about the proper wedding shoes for bride etiquette? Is there a certain wedding shoe you’re “supposed” to wear? We’ll tell you everything you need to know!
Today we’re tackling all the hot questions you have (picturing hot sand and sun right now, especially because we have SNOW outside at the moment, yes, on April 23).
We’re here to answer: what kind of shoes does a bride wear for a beach wedding, do you wear heels to a beach wedding, and what wedding shoes for bride / bridesmaids are considered proper protocol for your seaside ceremony.
Let’s discuss it!
Beach Wedding Shoes for Bride
As the bride, you may be asking yourself… what kind of shoes do you wear to the beach? And what color shoes do brides wear?
Luckily for you, you’re not going to be walking on the sand for very long; regardless, having something on your feet is a good idea to prevent things like heat, insect bites, or sharp rocks and glass. Who knew?
For most weddings, I think the rule of go ahead, wear any shoes you’d like generally applies. But for beach weddings, the shoes are slightly different for the bride, if even just for the ceremony itself. This isn’t to place limitations on you, but rather to wear proper footwear that goes with the theme of your wedding — and honestly, you need to pick a pair that is sand-friendly. Sand is NOT easy to walk in and we want you to walk boldly and confidently, not wobbly and nervous. :)
So, what makes the best wedding shoes for the bride? SANDALS! Wedding sandals that are flat make a great choice, especially when you are actually getting married on the sand.
Sand makes it tough to walk in most shoes, so flat wedding sandals are an ideal choice for the bride.
Do you wear heels to a beach wedding?
If you don’t want to wear flats or sandals, you can wear heels to a beach wedding. However, we recommend block heel sandals or wedges.
Both shoes will offer comfort and style, as well as confidence when walking outdoors. Instead of a skinny heel, which is next to impossible outdoors on sand, dirt, grass, etc., a block heel or espadrille/wedge makes it easier to walk in uneven terrain. Even then, we recommend an aisle runner placed on the sand to make the walk down the aisle a bit easier, regardless of the wedding sandals you choose.
An aisle runner like this (by IDoAisleRunners) is a great solution.
What color shoes do brides wear?
This is a great question! Most brides wear white shoes, or ivory… a color that matches their dress seems to be the most popular choice. You don’t have to stick one color, though. We’re seeing a popular trend for brides to add a pop of color to their wardrobe with a pair of blush pink shoes, metallics like silver sandals or gold sandals, and blue is a hot choice right now as the bride’s “something blue”.
TL;DR
The bottom line: wear beach wedding shoes you love, are comfortable and easy to walk on sand and are in a color you love.
The most important thing is to place comfort over style here, to ensure you can walk easily and confidently down the aisle at your beach ceremony.
Now that you know what kind of wedding shoes for bride “protocol”, we’ll show you some beautiful pairs of wedding sandals and block heels for inspiration.
