It’s Wedding Advice Wednesday! Today we’re tackling an Ask Emmaline question submitted by bride-to-be Caroline. She asks…
[su_quote cite=”Caroline”]Hi Emmaline, I’ve picked a long veil for my wedding. Do I wear it for the entire wedding, or just the ceremony? When do I take it off?[/su_quote]
Great question, Caroline! Everybody knows the veil is an important part of the bride’s ensemble, but no one ever tells you when to put it on or when to take it off. We’re here to help!
When to Put on Veil
Put on your wedding veil while getting ready in your bridal suite. You’ll want to put on the veil immediately before going to the ceremony and right after your hairstyle is completed (and hair-sprayed to the max).
When to Take Off Veil
You can wear the veil throughout the entire reception, if you wish, but many brides find it gets in the way of eating and dancing. And sometimes those extra pins and clips keeping it in place can pull at your hair or weigh it down. We recommend removing the veil immediately after your first dance, so it gets a little more visibility in your bridal shoot, the cake cutting, and First Dance photos.
When you’re ready to take off the veil, have your Maid of Honor come with you to the ladies room so she can carefully remove the veil without messing up your hairstyle. Usually this is simple and involves removing just a single hair comb; just be sure to remove it slowly so your hairstyle stays in place.
Where to Put the Wedding Veil
Wrap it up and place in a box in the bridal suite (with your purse and other belongings) or drape it over your chair.
Hope it helps!
