You may have seen/heard of a vellum wedding invitation or a vellum jacket.
But what is it? And what makes vellum paper such a popular accessory?
In this blog post, we’ll tackle the topic of vellum wedding invites, how these jackets work, and why you’ll want to add this translucent paper to your essential wedding stationery list.
What Is a Vellum Invitation?
Vellum is a thin, translucent specialty paper used in formal wedding invitations. This decorative paper looks elegant, yet it isn’t used for its style alone. Vellum functions as a chic way to hold layers of paper on an invitation, such as your RSVP card and envelope, reception card, or other enclosures.
Many stationers use vellum paper or overlays to keep a wedding invitation closed if it is a jacket or pocket-fold style.
Since your wedding invitation makes a nice first impression, you want that impression to be an organized one — not one where guests are opening invites with papers flying all over the place. ;)
Vellum keeps things neat and organized, while offering a chic and sophisticated photo finish.
How To Use Vellum
It’s easy to use vellum with your wedding invites. You simply add one vellum jacket to each invitation card — making sure the enclosures are tucked in nicely and neatly inside — and close the jacket. Some vellum stays together pretty well, but you may wish to make close tightly.
In that case, you’ll simply add wax seals to your vellum wedding invitations for a final touch.
These wax seals have a sticker adhesive to make adding them so easy. Plus, there are plenty of fabulous colors available. These are by Pink House Press.

Let’s take a look at some examples of vellum so you can imagine how it will look on your wedding invitations.
