Here’s another COVID-related wedding question, as couples are getting back into the fun of wedding planning (while taking precautions, obviously). This question comes to us from Bridget who wants to know about N95 wedding masks, and what is the difference between N95 vs KN95 masks for weddings.
She writes,
“Hi Emmaline! Planning my wedding for April here and wondering where to buy N95 wedding masks to give to guests. Any suggestions? Are N95 masks for wedding gatherings the same thing as KN95? Thanks!”
Hi Bridget! Great question and congrats on the upcoming wedding! April is one of the prettiest times of the year to tie the knot. :)
I’m no medical expert, but I know the N95 wedding mask debate is one asked by many couples. The problem is, we’ve seen many fake N95 masks coming up online and we’d hate to recommend one of those that only turns out to be a fake. Yikes.
And to quickly clear up your question: NO, N95 is NOT the same as KN95.
KN95 masks look a lot like N95 masks, as each features the same kind of half-folding seam in the middle and earloops (although all masks feature earloops).
Now, here comes the difference between n95 wedding masks vs. kn95 wedding masks: they aren’t regulated in the same way. And N95 masks are more for surgical settings; it is important to note that KN95 masks are NOT surgical masks, personal protective equipment, or N95 respirators. These are simply for use by the general public, i.e. gatherings, grocery shopping, etc. We do not make medical claims or health claims, we’re simply offering an option for you looking for N95 wedding masks. Read more official guidance here.
As with all masks, we cannot guarantee effectiveness and we emphasize that masks are not surgical in nature. However, if you’re looking for KN95 wedding masks (we do not have a recommendation for N95 wedding masks at the time of publication), you can get these customized. They’re disposable, so they are designed to be worn on your wedding day and then tossed out.
Now, if you’d like an alternative to these face masks for guests, try the new custom KN95 masks for weddings. We spotted these here from For Your Party.
You can also see other options here.
And don’t forget hand sanitizer while you’re there. They have the cutest bottles in this collection.
We hope this helps as you pick out your masks, customize ’em, and make lemons out of lemonade! We also hope this clears up the whole N95 wedding masks vs. KN95 mask difference. :)

Happy Planning!
