Today we’re talking about wedding favors that give back! Here’s how to do donations in lieu of favors at your wedding. Make sure you join the list for the latest!
Let’s talk about one of the big-budget items on your wedding checklist: favors. Some of the questions we receive regularly from our readers on the topic include:
• Are wedding favors a waste of money?
• Is there a better way to spend your budget?
• Is there such as thing as feel good wedding favors that give back?
In short, no, wedding favors are not a waste; spending your budget is up to you; and yes, wedding favors that give back to your favorite charity is definitely a thing and it’s easy to do!
Personally, I love giving favors: they are the perfect memento of your wedding day, especially when they are wedding favors that are useful.
How you spend your budget on wedding favors is 100% up to you. And that means you can opt to skip wedding favors, choose more luxury take-home gifts, go with cheap favors for weddings, or select wedding favors that give back.
Today we’re focusing on the latter: how to give wedding favors that give back. These are known as donation favors or charity wedding favors and are donated to a charity or organization of your choice, with your guests’ names (or in memory of a loved one) in mind. This can be a local hospital, charity, animal shelter, or anywhere else that holds a special place in your heart.
Charity Wedding Favors
It’s easy to give a donation to your favorite charity in lieu of favors. In this way, you use the budgeted money for favors and turn it into a monetary donation to the charity of your choice.
Here’s how to give favors that give back.
1. Choose a favorite charity.
The best donation spots are places that have special meaning to you and your partner. Is there a charity or cause that you are passionate about supporting? Consider a donation in honor of your guests and find out how to donate to their organization.
2. Donate.
Send in your donation.
3. Have cards or a sign printed to let your guests know.
In lieu of favors, you’ve given a donation to a charity instead. After doing so, it is customary to indicate this on a card for your wedding guests or on a sign so guests know.
One of my favorite cards includes a mini favor with it, which guests can plant and wildflowers will grow! It also includes a mention of the charity to which you’ve donated. This is by CricketPrinting.
As another option, you can get custom cards made from Karma K Weddings like this:
