Hi, lovelies! Emma here and we’re tackling the latest Ask Emmaline question today about whether you can wear a hair comb with your hair down. This question comes from bride-to-be, Laura, who asks,
“Hi Emmaline Bride! I am looking for a wedding hair comb I can wear with my hair down. I plan on wearing a veil for my ceremony and then just the hair comb for after the wedding. Is it possible to wear a hair comb with my hair down, or do I need to put my hair up to do it? Thank you!”
Can I Wear a Hair Comb with Hair Down Style?
Hi, Laura! Thanks for writing and excellent question.
Yes, you can wear a wedding hair comb with hair down styles, updo styles, with a veil, without… it’s completely up to you. Although a hair comb does stay easier in an updo — all that hair, bobby pins, and hairspray does wonders! — it is possible to make a hair comb stay in your hair by itself. (It will attach easily to your veil with pins, so that shouldn’t be a problem during the ceremony.)
As a tip, you’ll want to try out the hair comb you select and do a trial run with your hairstylist before the wedding. Let him or her know you plan to wear your hair down and see what kind of style you can incorporate with the hair comb into the down hairstyle.
It is extremely helpful to backcomb your hair in the section where you plan to wear your hair comb. This is done by combing your hair backward (and is best explained in detail here). This creates volume and gives your hair texture for keeping that hair comb in place.
It is *extremely* easy to do it yourself at home with this teasing comb or this backcomb brush, either under $10, believe me! It is helpful to have for your pre-wedding festivities, too. Who doesn’t love added volume?
Here’s the comb you would use:
Or the brush:
Of course, it will help to have bobby pins in your clutch if needed to secure the hair comb in your hair after the ceremony (but you’ll already have them at-the-ready in your wedding survival kit).
