It’s time for a new Ask Emmaline question! This one comes from Natalie who has a question related to invitations.
She asks,
“We are getting married June 2016. We don’t have the money for save the dates and invites. Our question is when do we send the invites?”
Hi Natalie! Great question! Save the dates are optional, so don’t worry if you can’t afford to send both. Save the dates are more of an essential for destination weddings or when many of your guests will be traveling to the wedding. They are also helpful if your wedding falls on a holiday weekend, just to give guests a heads-up.
But, as I mentioned, they’re not a requirement. Invitations would be mailed 6-8 weeks before the wedding just as normal. Even though you aren’t sending save the dates, there is no need to send the invites any earlier than this timeline.
TIP: Want to get the word out without save the dates? Get a wedding website and put the date and pertinent details on it. This way, people can access your website and find out the details to “save the date” — without having to invest more in your budget. You can find some cute wedding websites like this one (below) at Minted (for free for a basic site!)
It can even match your invitations and wedding theme or color palette.
Hope it helps!
