Surfing the day before your wedding… awesome! This surfing engagement session of Nicole and Michael was a terrific idea. On a secluded beach in Puerto Rico with surfboards in hand, Nicole and Michael hit the waves for some excellent photos. Their photographer, Eric from Eric Boneske Photography, liked the idea of capturing a surfing session and let the fun begin. Find out more from the bride and see the surf session after the click…
Surfing Engagement Session
The bride Nicole tells us, “When we first got engaged and started talking about the wedding, we immediately agreed that the most important thing was to find an awesome, adventurous photographer. We both love surfing and have spent many mornings and evenings out in the water, but we don’t have any pictures (because that would require someone to stay on the beach).”
“We already have tons of photos of us dressed up and looking nice, so we didn’t need bridal portraits or traditional engagement pictures…we were really hoping we could find someone to come out in the water with us and get some action shots. When we first met Eric and told him our idea, the look on his face said it all… he was so stoked! He even added to the original idea, saying we should document the whole process–from checking the surf to waxing the boards–so it would look like he just happened to catch us on a normal morning.”
Since we were getting married in Rincon, Puerto Rico, we planned the session for the day before the wedding (the surf there is a little more predictable than in our hometown). Eric brought an underwater casing and fins and we all got up at 5am for our “dawn patrol” session. We had a blast…the morning light was perfect, there were some good sets coming in, and we were the only people as far as the eye could see.”
“The pictures look so natural because Eric blended in seamlessly and just caught us being “us.” My favorite picture is the black and white photo of just the two of us looking so tiny in the middle of the ocean…it is definitely going to be blown up and hung on the mantel. We are also going to blow up some of the pictures of the waves to hang in the new house as some very interesting conversation pieces!”
“The pictures turned out amazing…I love the way Eric caught the soft light and the gorgeous colors exactly as I remember them. Of course, Michael was ecstatic when he saw the action shots–Eric’s underwater camera allowed him to get some great angles from inside the waves.”
“Afterwards, we got coffee and stopped by our favorite bench in Rincon–it is painted with the road sign for 413 and says “Road to Happiness,” which we thought was appropriate!”
