When I got married in the winter, there were fewer bridesmaid dress options. I didn’t get married that long ago, yet I’m amazed at how many online resources are now available to make buying bridesmaid dresses a breeze.
I remember visiting bridal shops in-person and trying on dresses to see which necklines and lengths worked best; it was fun, but online bridesmaid dress shopping, especially in the winter, might be a better choice for many bridal parties especially during these times (and if your attendants live in various locations).
When I was searching for bridesmaid dresses for winter weddings, I thought, I want my bridesmaids to wear a nice dress, long-length, and something that will keep them warm. It was December — in Michigan — so, yeah, snow and icy cold wind were pretty much guaranteed.
Bridesmaid dresses for a winter wedding may have long sleeves, floor-length hemlines, and thicker fabrics to keep bridesmaids more covered in the cooler months.
The biggest difference I noticed then — and now, after learning a lot about fabric styles thanks to BHLDN‘s helpful ‘shop by fabric’ option — is the fabric itself, thicker and fuller to provide an extra layer of warmth.
For instance, you may see a plethora of silk or satin bridesmaid dresses, which offer more fullness; on the other hand, velvet is one of the most trend-forward options for its super-soft fabric and luxe, cozy feel. Our bridesmaids wore Duchess Satin bridesmaid gowns in red, offering a beautiful pop of color to coordinate with our holiday-inspired wedding and the material offered an added layer of warmth — helpful when taking outdoor photos.
Winter bridesmaid dresses can be velvet, silk, satin, chiffon, crepe, or jersey. Many brides choose a longer length, although we have seen stylish shorter hems on bridal parties this time of year and they also look beautiful.
And don’t be overly concerned with warmth if you’re not crazy about the dress style; you can always add a pashmina or shawl to add a layer of coziness. As a bride who has truly been there, you’re running around so much anyway that the cold air feels a little refreshing. ;)
The rule of thumb when picking out winter bridesmaid dresses: choose one you yourself would love to wear.
This will ensure your bridesmaids feel beautiful wearing the dress and look forward to being a part of your wedding in the dress you have selected
Now that you know a bit about what kinds of fabrics and hems to look for, let’s take a look at the best bridesmaid dresses for winter weddings that we spotted at BHLDN. I’ll also tell you about a dress I had the privilege of wearing myself, thanks to the team at BHLDN! It’s a dream dress, truly. Let’s get started — you have winter bridesmaid dresses to select!
P.S. Many dresses are now available in extended sizes from 0 to 26!
Best Winter Bridesmaid Dresses
Here are just a few of our favorite bridesmaid dresses for the winter.
1. Velvet Maxi Bridesmaid Dress
This bridesmaid dress by designer Jenny Yoo features long velvet sleeves, a plunging neckline, an open back, and a floor-length skirt. This is an elegant dress for bridesmaids at a winter wedding or in the fall, especially with the incredible color palette offered. This dress is shown in dark berry and french blue velvet below; the dress is also available in marigold, emerald, and English rose.

2. Deep V-Neck Velvet Dress
Oh, this is my favorite bridesmaid dress for winter weddings! It is by designer Jenny Yoo and makes a great alternative to sleeves if that’s not your style.
This is also the dress I was able to try-on in person thanks to the team at BHLDN for a wedding. I loved getting all dressed up (his suit is from here!) and this dress fit like a dream! I think any bridesmaid would feel like a princess wearing this dress for a winter wedding (or late-fall, as I did!). Here’s a picture of me in the Logan in emerald:
This plunging v-neckline is amazing with illusion tulle and stretchy, so-comfortable-you-can-dance-all-night velvet material. I LOVE THIS DRESS. I recommend this as the best winter bridesmaid dress; fits like a glove, is slightly stretchy and feels incredible on! In addition, this makes an excellent winter wedding guest dress.
It was lined in the bust, so you do not need to worry about undergarments with it. In addition, there is an illusion tulle layer in the front so your dress stays in place and looks elegant all night long.

My favorite color is emerald, so I chose that shade; however, English Rose is a gorgeous color that we’re noticing many bridesmaids wearing for winter weddings this year. Here’s one example:
3. Midi Length Dress
This is a fantastic option if you prefer straps to sleeves and you like a more covered neckline versus a deep plunge. This midi length — which hits mid-calf — is a great option for winter bridesmaid dresses because it’s not too short or too long. If you’re looking for winter bridesmaid dresses that they will truly wear again, this is it! By Jenny Yoo, style Bentley.
4. Flutter Sleeve Floor-Length Dress
Talk about a gorgeous combination of flutter sleeves and velvet! By Jenny Yoo.
Those are the velvet dresses; let’s talk about additional fabrics and silhouettes below.
5. Satin Maxi Dress
You can never go wrong with a winter bridesmaid dress in satin, especially in a color as versatile as navy! This navy blue maxi dress features a high neckline and sleeveless style with a blouson top and fitted skirt. By BHLDN.
Also loving it in “dove grey”:
5. High-Neck Blouson Dress
This high-neck blouson bridesmaid dress has a flutter sleeve and slit opening at the back for a little drama. By BHLDN, named Lena.

6. Bridesmaid Jumpsuit
This stylish bridesmaid jumpsuit in navy looks like a dress from the top-up; the bottom is a stylish, modern jumpsuit that looks comfortable yet refined. I love this style! By Fame and Partners.
7. Gold Glamorous Gown
This gown is an elegant choice for any formal wedding, especially one with an Art Deco theme! Shown in ‘rust’, this silky maxi dress is made for dancing with a high-neck bodice and soft skirt. Love, love, love. By BHLDN, named Cortland.
8. Off-the-Shoulder Crepe Dress
Stunning! This off-the-shoulder dress is made with figure-hugging crepe material and a subtle flared skirt. By BHLDN, named Delice.
9. One-Shoulder Maxi Dress
This fun one-shoulder dress features gathered details on the front and is made with absolutely comfortable jersey material you’ll want to wear all day long. By BHLDN, named Brixen. Shown in Cinnamon.
10. Crepe Maxi Dress
This dress is great for bridesmaids, but it will become her new favorite go-to gown for all special events to come — especially in classics like midnight and black. Bridesmaids can wear a black dress and they’ll thank you for it: the dress will certainly become her favorite “little black dress” — in this case, “totally gorgeous black gown” — for years to come.
