When we received the latest Ask Emmaline question from Breanna, we couldn’t wait to share it with you. She writes,
“My fiance and I have a dog named Sadie who has been a big part of our history. We adopted her just a few months after we began dating and it has been now five plus years together. Sadie lives with us both and we all hike, go for walks, etc. together and consider her a part of the family. We don’t have any kids yet so we pretty much treat Sadie like our “kid”. I was telling a bridesmaid about how we plan to have Sadie at the wedding as the “ring bearer” and I even want to include her as part of our wedding cake topper. My bridesmaid thought I was absolutely nuts. Am I being weird? Or is having a cake topper with us and our dog something I should reconsider? Thanks in advance for your help!”
Hey, Breanna– I totally get it. We say, do anything you want to personalize your big day, especially if it means so much to you!
We’ve seen cake toppers of all kinds, from the hilarious to the sentimental to the totally fun and modern, all of which could definitely include a dog (or cat, or bird, or dozens of animals).
So, don’t tell her we said so, but your bridesmaid is the one being “nuts”. ;)
Before Andrew and I had our first son, it was us and the cats at home all the time. And we spoiled them rotten. Now that we have little ones, the cats get wayyy more treats (and kid-tossed table scraps, ha!) in lieu of belly scratches, but we do what we can. Pets are part of your family and including Sadie in your nuptials isn’t weird at all.
For the ceremony, I do recommend having someone in charge of her, though, during the ceremony and afterward.
As far as a cake topper with a dog included, there are tons of options out there. Here are some I’ve handpicked myself to help you (and others who may be wondering the very same thing). Hope it helps! These are all handmade by TheRosemarryToppers, a shop I adore on Etsy. You’ll love working with them to create a dog cake topper for your wedding.

Ooh, I love this one: “you, me & the dogs”. Cute! By CoppiceAndCrafts.
We’re including this one, too, because it’s just too darn cute. I love how personalized the dogs are, right down to their fur colors (and collars and adorable little noses). By Goose Grease.
And, last but not least, here are a few clay cake toppers featuring dogs by Clayphory….
I handpicked the last cake topper with dog especially for Breanna, since she mentioned that they go hiking together with their pup, Sadie! Get it here.
I hope this round-up of wedding cake toppers with dogs will help you to see that it isn’t “weird” at all to include your pup in your topper or at your ceremony. I think it’s sweet and she’s lucky to belong to such a great family!
Anyway, tell me what you think of these in the comment box below. I’d love to hear from you!
Happy Planning!

I love this post :).
We were at an outdoor barn wedding last weekend and the bride & groom included their beautiful greyhound. Someone was designated to walk Ellie (dog’s name) down the aisle dressed up in a cute bride outfit. Everyone had such a big kick out of that sight! During the rest of the wedding, Ellie was chaperoned by the couple’s grand parents and was extremely well behaved. While people were mingling and socializing, nobody really noticed her because she was so quiet and stayed out of everyone’s way.
I’ve never seen a dog at a wedding before, but that experience was definitely wonderful! It can totally be done.
