Uh-oh. Are you about to make one of these classic honeymoon outfit mistakes? We hope not.
Emma here and we’re not trying to be dramatic, but it seems like the honeymoon doesn’t get quite as much attention as it ought to receive, especially when most couples throw a bunch of clothes into a suitcase at the last-minute and they often forget many of the best honeymoon outfits and accessories they wish they had.
And a bag that goes everywhere you do!
Whether you’re traveling for a quick honeymoon getaway on a weekend or you’re going abroad for a week or longer of honeymoon bliss, there are must-haves you’ll want to include in your suitcase. Today we’re helping you pack with seven of the best honeymoon clothing ideas you should include and, surprise, it’s not all about the lingerie! :)
Here are the things you’ll want to pack for the best honeymoon outfits that you’ll love to wear — and helpful mistakes to avoid.
Mistake #1: Packing Only One Swimsuit
You need to pack more than one swimsuit for your honeymoon. Fact.
This isn’t so you can switch up your style, and also so you have one to wear when one is already damp. I don’t know about you, but spending the day swimming and then changing for dinner and hanging up the swimsuit to dry just doesn’t cut it. When I go to put on a swimsuit after dinner for a soak in the hot tub, I don’t want to put on a cold damp swimsuit — I want a nice dry one to wear!
And I probably want to wear something different in the hot tub than I’d wear in the lake or while kayaking or even while swimming.
You’ll probably want a one-piece or, which I prefer, a tankini with a bikini bottom. It offers coverage like a tankini but feels more like wearing a tank top (and looks more youthful imo). A tankini swimsuit like this one from prAna is one great example of what to wear when you’re doing activities. Kayaking or canoeing, going to a water park, playing beach volleyball, etc. is always easier when you wear a full coverage tankini top (and this one actually looks super-cute!) It’s like wearing a tank top but offers tons of coverage. I have one myself and it is very comfortable; plus, it’s sustainably-made.
Here’s the real kicker, though: this swimsuit is a REVERSIBLE tankini and bikini bottom style, so it is like having two swimsuits in one. This color combination is beautiful: one side is green with a pattern and the other is blue. See it here.
Two-Piece
A two-piece swimsuit is a definite must-have on your honeymoon. It doesn’t have to be in white, which is one of the wedding honeymoon mistakes brides make. You can get a bride swimsuit like this (on the right), if you’d like; or simply choose one of these two-pieces that you like best. This cute bride swimsuit is by ShopAtBash.
Bottom line: pack at least two swimsuits for your honeymoon.
Mistake #2: Forgetting Cute, Packable Maxi Dresses
You’ll probably go out to dinner and enjoy sightseeing many times on your honeymoon, so why not dress up for the occasion? Many brides forget to pack a cute dress to wear for day or night and really, they make the best honeymoon outfits.
Look for soft, breathable fibers and long-lengths — or even midi lengths — that can work for daytime or nighttime honeymoon outfits. Dresses like any of these we found at Salty Crush are great because they’re extremely packable. They aren’t easy to wrinkle, so they’re great for luggage; in addition, they’re cute and feminine with cuts and styles that look stylish, yet you’ll feel comfortable. These are my go-to’s right now and they’re 70% off.
Mistake #3: Skipping a Sun Hat
A hat is a no-brainer for your honeymoon, especially a cute floppy hat like any of these. It will keep sun out of your face and protect you from harmful rays. And honestly, is there anything cuter for a summertime accessory? We think not.
You can get a honeymoon hat like this with your name personalized from APK Bridesmaid Gifts.
Mistake #4: Not Having Enough Shoes to Wear
Sure, shoes aren’t the easiest to pack, but the best honeymoon outfits always look even better with proper footwear. A pair of nude bock heels, like these from Chinese Laundry, are your best bet. They go with EVERYTHING. One pair of shoes and you’re done! Plus, they’re insanely comfortable. You can get them here.
Then you’ll have plenty of room in your luggage for one spare pair of shoes, like these flip-flops these from Weddingstar.
If you’re doing a lot of sightseeing, you might want a pair of comfortable go-anywhere slip-ons, like these. Based on a whopping over 23,000 reviews, these are known insanely comfortable slip-on shoes, and I’ve not tried them yet but they sure look comfy. These are great to toss in your bag for travel, sightseeing, walking, tourist attractions, etc. By HeyDude.
And for the best shoes that fits right in your bag — and is small enough to fold up and fit in your clutch purse — don’t forget to pack a pair of Cinderollies. They’re amazingly comfortable and the ultimate travel flat.
Mistake #5: Lacking Proper Loungewear — and Lingerie
There will be some time to hang out at your resort or hotel room, so be sure to pack something to wear while you’re lounging. Anything from here is a great idea for resort wear.
Now, lingerie: this one’s probably a no-brainer because it is your honeymoon. A list of the best honeymoon outfits wouldn’t be complete without bridal lingerie. You’ll find interesting and unique outfit ideas here.
Mistake #6: Oops — Forgetting Something Warm
Chances are you’ll have one day that is on the cooler side, or you’ll need something cozy to wear in the evening. Don’t forget to bring a jacket, sweatshirt, or sweater. A cardigan like this one is always my go-to. It is by Salty Crush and they have a ton of style-forward knits here.
Mistake #7: No Beach Coverup
And last but not least, don’t make the mistake of forgetting a beach coverup. It’ll be great to bring with you to the resort, to the pool, or walking along the shoreline of the beach. Here is a beach cover-up style that brides love by ModParty.
Got it? Good! Now you won’t make any of these packing mistakes… and you’ll have the best honeymoon outfits on-hand for your trip.
