Hi, loves! Emma here. Are you wearing flats for your wedding instead of heels? Or even just for the reception? Then you won’t want to miss this post!
I pretty much live in flats on a daily basis, essentially because I’m chasing after my little guy and I also want something that’s easy to take on and off. I also love the look of them with leggings or jeans. It’s no surprise that some brides are opting to wear flats for weddings, whether down the aisle or just for dancing. They’re 1) less expensive than heels, 2) easier to wear down the aisle if you’re not used to walking in heels, and 3) there are so many styles and colors from which to choose! Pro Tip: Pick a colorful pair of heels to show off your personal style. Plus, colors are so much easier to wear on a regular basis than white after the wedding.
P.S. Need something blue? These are perfect.
Today we’re sharing five things you need to know when wearing flats whether you’re a bride-to-be, bridesmaid, or you even as a guest wearing flats as part of your outfit. Enjoy!
Tips for Wearing Flats for Weddings
1. Pick a favorite pair that is ultra comfortable.
They have to be comfortable or you’ll be sorry you chose them. Also, make sure they’re not too tight or too loose. If they’re too loose, they’ll be hard to walk in down the aisle. Too tight? They’ll make you want to take them off. And, you don’t want your feet to hurt! Also, if buying wedding flats on Etsy, check the reviews first. You’ll get an accurate depiction of how the shoes will fit from real customers.
You don’t need to worry so much about how fancy your flats will be, since flats are generally pretty basic. However, you can find gorgeous pairs on Etsy or flats on Amazon. Go to your local favorite store and try some on. You might be surprised by what you find. We happen to love these blush flats from Walkin On Air, which you’ve seen featured here in the past. They also have some really pretty lace-embellished pairs.
2. Break them in.
Wear them around the house so they get worn in a bit before the big day. Flats are notorious for chafing skin a) on the back of your foot, and b) on the sides of your feet by your toes. For the sides of your feet, breaking them in will help give you a little more wiggle room. For the back of your foot, try these. You’ll also want to invest in a set of these for the big day because they’ll add more cushion for added comfort all day long.
3. Don’t forget to get a pedicure.
You’re probably tempted to skip the pedicure if you’re wearing flats all day long… and I get it. But you might want to consider getting one anyway — you never know when you’ll want to kick off your shoes. Bonus: they’ll look incredible on the beach at your honeymoon.
4. Add a bit of lace socks to make them even cuter.
These are so cute. They’ll also add a little layer in between your feet and your insoles so you don’t stick to them (and so they don’t get all sweaty). Hey, just being honest.
5. Bring them to your dress fittings.
This one is essential: you absolutely need to bring your flats that you plan to wear to your dress fittings. The length of your dress is dependent on your height and additional shoe height that you add. If you are wearing heels for the ceremony, bring those along, too. Your seamstress will want an accurate fit and wearing heels to the fitting and switching to flats can cause your dress to be too long.
